Hello all, I just wanted to offer a quick plug for a half-day seminar I'll be offering at the upcoming JA-SIG conference in Denver on Sunday, June 20th. Titled "Web Publishing with HyperContent", the seminar will be an opportunity to get some guided, hands-on experience with HyperContent, including a cool new feature which will be introduced next month for managing site maps and navigation. I'll also be leading a Birds of a Feather break-out session on Monday for more open-ended discussion of HyperContent. See you in Denver, Alex |

The only jars you need that aren't included in the CVS are those which=20= come with uPortal v2.1 or higher. The build.properties file needs to be=20= configured so that the HyperContent build script can find the uPortal=20 installation and its libraries. uPortal 2.2 behaves a little strangely by default; you have to use the preferences to add a new tab and a new column, before you can add a channel to your layout. I should add that to the documentation! It wasn't like that in previous versions of uPortal. Hi, I successfully downloaded and installed uPortal 2-2-1 quickstart and HyperContent1_3. I am unable, though, to get passed this step in the "Getting Started" instructions: "... go to the Preferences section to subscribe to the Content Manager channel." I think I found the Preferences section ( click on icon in upper right hand corner ). What then? "Add Content"? select 2. "Content Manager" and click add? This has no effect. How to I subscribe to the content manager please? thanks, Sylvia |

Hello, I know there's not a lot of folks on this list yet, but I'd like to invite you early participants to answer a few questions that will be repeated regularly so we can gauge interest in HyperContent, and share information with each other about Web Content Management evaluations and implementations in general. Feel free to answer questions at length, and please note that the reply-to address for this list is set to the author's address by default (to avoid unintentional public postings), so please make sure to address your reply back to the list! What is the name of your institution or organization? What is your level of interest in Web Content Management (e.g. poking around, evaluating products, in production) If you are evaluating Web Content Management systems a.) what criteria are you using? b.) what timeframe are you looking at? c.) what products are the most serious contenders? d.) what information is lacking that could help your evaluation of HyperContent? e.) what pros and cons have you identified with HyperContent? If you are in production with a Web Content Management system, a.) what product are you using? b.) what is the scale of your deployment (# of web sites, pages, users) c.) do you consider your deployment a success? why? d.) if you could start over, what would you do differently? What general feedback do you have regarding HyperContent? Thanks in advance to all who respond. -Alex |

Alex, There is a documented problem using HTMLArea behind SSL. When using IE you will get a mixed content message each time you edit. Fortunately there is an easy patch. In htmlarea.js add: // create the IFRAME var iframe = document.createElement("iframe"); iframe.src ="javascript:void(0);"; <<<<<<<<< new line htmlarea.appendChild(iframe); and in popup/insert_image.html add: <iframe name="ipreview" id="ipreview" frameborder="0" style="border : 1px solid gray;" height="200" width="300" src="javascript:void(0)"> </iframe> (this line is towards the end of the file) Pete Boysen Iowa State University pb...@ia... Hello all, I just wanted to let you know I will be on vacation starting tomorrow (Thursday March 18th), returning to the office on Monday March 30th. I will not have consistent access to the internet while I'm away, so hopefully no fatal bugs with version 1.3 will emerge in that time ;-) I'm going to try to write a little more documentation before I leave tonight . . . Regards, Alex |

I may have to impose quotas at some point and there is no > File.length(). I suppose I could get the byte array and get its > length but that would be too costly. This is a tough one. I chose not to implement this originally because it is difficult to find an inexpensive way of implementing this. It wouldn't be too difficult to track the number of bytes written and store it with the file edition properties, but what do we do with File objects constructed dynamically from IDataLoaders? It would become a burden on the IDataLoader interface to add a length() method, and in many situations that could only be properly computed by cycling through all the data in the inputstream and adding up the byte count . . . also not too efficient. You can always call the available() method on the inputStream, which for IO files and byte arrays almost always returns the total number of bytes. I'll think about this a bit more. I'm planning on releasing the current CVS code as-is, barring last minute bug fixes, as v1.3 within the next week. After that, perhaps we can evaluate this possible extension of the filesystem package more in depth. > > At 01:57 PM 3/11/2004, you wrote: >> Pete, >> I just wanted to point out the "parseHTMLFragment" method in >> the HyperContent DocumentFactory - you may want to look at that for >> an example of how to configure and use neko to parse html. Pete, I just wanted to point out the "parseHTMLFragment" method in the HyperContent DocumentFactory - you may want to look at that for an example of how to configure and use neko to parse html. You may or may not find my implementation meets your needs; I have it configured to strip out all style and javascript content. Alex |
