We are just implementing uPortal 2.5 and I'd like to know which version of Hypercontent to use in order to allow authorized users to edit content in the context of the portal.
Thanks,
Steve

Most institutions are currently running HC 1.4 in production, but it has not been tested under uPortal 2.5 so there might be some glitches. HC 2.0 has been production at Columbia for about a month; we are running the latest CVS code, which have come a fair way since the release of 2.0b4 in terms of stability and some usability enhancements. I plan on releasing 2.0 RC very soon, but my first priority right now is rapid response to issues that arise in Columbia's implementation, all of which feeds back into an ultimately better 2.0 final.
My tendency is to recommend HC2.0; though it is younger and still getting the kinks worked out, it is overall a superior product, and our users much prefer it to 1.4.
2.0 no longer runs inside of uPortal, but as a standalone web application. You can feed content from HC2 into uPortal using Web Proxy or CGenericXSLT channel types, and can achieve single sign-on between the two using CAS. For more information, please join the hypercontent -users mailing list.

Thanks. I'm also new to uPortal. Should I do the following:
Step 1 - Implement Hypercontent 2.0
Step 2 - research how to use Web Proxy and/or CGenericXSLT channels
Step 3 - Research CAS and understand how this works.
Integrate by applying Steps 2 & 3.
If you know of any good documentation, I'd sure appreciate it.

This sounds like a fine approach. The best place to look for docs are at the uportal site (www.uportal.org). which has links to the uPortal wiki and mailing list archives, which contain an abundance of information. There is a wiki for CAS on the same server as the uPortal wiki.
