Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

Welcome to HTSQL.
HTSQL is a HTTP access specification and library implementation
to SQL databases. This list will be the primary discussion
place for the project. The timeline is somewhat open, but it
consists of 3-4 stages:
1. Building a first pass specification and implementation. The
specification will be written according to RFC2629. The
implementation will be done in Python, assuming PostgreSQL as a
backend data source. This will be done before the project is
announced and made public.
2. Collecting a tight group of 2-5 additional people who have a vested
interest in revising the specification for several months
(hopefully no more than six); the goal of this group will be to
produce a final proposal for HTSQL. This group should have a wide
experience, including one hard-core SQL database developer, two
application developers to provide to verify that the specification
is both simple and flexible, one XML/HTTP/URI/IETF expert who can
help shape the proposal into the proper formal language, and at
most one additional individual who can help with an alternative
language implementation, preferably as a "C" library.
3. Ideally, the specification will be passed on to the IETF for
approval. However, if the IETF is not interested, we will still
publish the specification and implementations at http://htsql.org
At this point, the list will be opened up for further comments
to the community at large to get as many eyes on the proposal
as possible.
4. Finally, produce a final version of the specification with one
or more implementations available. Then, loop around and work
on various extensions of the technology.
To validate this tookit, at least two problem domains should be
implemented. I am currently thinking a project tracking system and
perhaps a asset management or business process documentation system.
Kind Regards,
Clark
