At one time, I had setup my web server with Html2Wml as a demonstration=20=

Makefile.debian is used for the Debian package of Html2Wml.

This looks good.

The instructions simply say to execute the following commands in your=20
shell:

     $ make
     $ make install

"make" will check that you have the required Perl modules installed=20
(mainly LWP::UserAgent, HTML::Parser, Text::Template).
"make install" will install Html2Wml and its documentation in the=20
appropriate directories.

In case nothing works, you can check that you have all the required=20
Perl modules by executing the following command:
     $ perl -Wc html2wml.cgi

The installation is not rocket science: simply copy html2wml.cgi (and=20
eventually html2chtml.cgi) to /home/html/cgi-bin

I hope to find some time in the next months to refactor Html2Wml as a=20
clean Perl module. This will allow a much more simple installation=20
process, using the standard Perl method.

    Edit the Makefile to check the location where you want to install Html2Wml 
    (variable PREFIX),
    it is done - my ftp host is^ basa.biz/html/ cgi-bin

I was planning to add image conversion using PerlMagick, but last time=20=

I tried, I had several troubles compiling ImageMagick and PerlMagick on=20=

Mac OS X. Now that I also have a Linux box, I will more easily work on=20=

this. But as I'm also working on other projects, I cannot give you a=20
date.

Hello,

I assume you are referring to the ASCII conversion, right?
"uuml" should indeed be rendered as "ue", but "ouml" is currently=20
rendered as "o", not "a". Should it be "oe" or "ae"? And do you know=20
how "iuml" or "yuml" should be rendered?

I found two mishandlings of umlauts in the current version.

ouml should be mapped to "ae" instead of "a" and
uuml to "ue" instead of "u".

Well a good phone should recognise the =A9 character, as it is defined =
in=20
the ISO-8859-1 charset.

There already the -a option that converts named entities to ASCII=20
characters (using Lynx-like equivalents), so I'll extent it so that it=20=

also converts non-ASCII characters.

I did specify that, I was expecting it would replace eg. =A9 with (c), =
not the html numeric code. That would be cool for dumb phones - like =
mine ;)

Unless you ask it to do so, Html2Wml does not convert characters, but=20
modify the XML declaration to indicate the encoding of the document.=20

This is already the case. As stated in the documentation[1] (and as=20
it's the case in the code, I've just checked again to be sure), "for"=20
is a generic parameter that can be used for any action, including=20
"include".

Right, there is indeed a problem. The original page is not the best
piece of HTML I know, but I have seen worse. I see an small error:
there is two [skip] (line 89 and 98) then two [end_skip], but this
is not something that can be nested: the skip mode is a simple on/off
state. Therefore the first [end_skip] turns off the skip mode. The
engine then see the closing tags but most of then, except the </tr>,
are ignored. It may be the cause of the problem but I doubt it as a
</tr> should generate a </p>.

Nope. I've done a few tests and it doesn't seem to be the root of the
problem.

Okay, I've finally found!
Remove the extra <head> that appear inside the document and everything=20=

works.

Hmm.. I'm not sure to understand what is the issue with the titles of=20
the cards. I've tried with Deck-It and could browse through several=20
cards of a big HTML page (I used Html2Wml doc). You can go to=20
http://wml.maddingue.org/wml/ with your Wap emulator or WML browser and=20=

play with the links here.

I also tried with my Nokia 6210 on this example but there was an error=20=

before displaying the page (which seems to implies that the conversion=20=

was incorrect). I've tried with other links and it worked.

Can you give me a link to your specific page so that I can test?

[Html2wml] multiple cards not displayed

Problem with a specific page in cgi mode: html2wml splits it in
multiple cards, but they all have the same name (from the title tag of
the html document), and the Ericsson phones I have and the deckit
emulator only show the first card. If I save the wml document and modify
the card name tag for each one, the page is completely displayed. I'm
new to this and have no idea if the phones should know better, anyway I
tried to add some String::Random stuff in post_conversion_cleanup(), and
discovered it is only called once.
  Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

(off-topic: nice script, does a helluwa job ripping off
frontpage/vstudio crap).

I loaded this URL and everything seems to work fine. I also tried with =20=

the result of a Google search and it also worked. How are you using =20
Html2Wml? as a CGI? Which browser are you using?

The question marks are already escaped using the URL syntax (%xx), but =20=

the browser can decode them and decide they're errors. An heavy =20
workaround is to encode all the URLs in Base64 (that's what I was =20
testing this week-end). I will try to integrate this but it requires =20
more work.

Sorry for the delay, I was searching the wrong direction. it came from =20=

the fact that I made incorrect assumptions regarding URLs =20
optimizations. I've uploaded the version 0.4.11b1 that correctly handle =20=

the URLs (at least in my tests). Please try and tell me if you find =20
something incorrect.

Feeding Html2Wml with the URL you give produced no error for me.
If you need, you can test Html2Wml here : http://wml.maddingue.net/try
This is on my personal machine so its a bit slow.

What appears though, is that some of the URLs are queries, which are
not correctly handled by Html2Wml yet. I've begun to work on a possible
workaround. If you can wait tomorrow or Friday, I'd give you a working
version.

But opening this page with the html2wml-cgi and parameter ?url=... only returns a page 
with the error:

This error is generated by their web server; but viewing the page with a normal 
browser works. I don't know if that's purposely, but if you could try it out and 
maybe help me to work around it, I'd be very thankful.
