The question I should have asked right off the bat is "what version of 
HtmlUnit are you using?".  If you're using something older than 1.3pre1 
then I'd recommend upgrading - there have been a lot of fixes put in 
since then.

There are tests for form["somename"] that are working in the latest code 
so I'm wondering if you're stumbling across something that's already 
been fixed in cvs.
