ok. The problem has been fixed since version 1.5 but not yet released. If you get the sources directly from CVS you will benefit of the last changes. Marc. A simple example: I start with www.google.com, I fill the form for a htmlunit search, and so I want to get this url: http://www.google.fr/search?hl=fr&q=htmlunit&btnG=Recherche+Google&meta= here's the source code: WebClient webClient = new WebClient(); HtmlPage pageCourrante = (HtmlPage)webClient.getPage( new URL("http://www.google.com") ); webClient.setRedirectEnabled(false); webClient.setJavaScriptEnabled(false); HtmlForm form = (HtmlForm)pageCourrante.getAllForms().get(0); HtmlTextInput search= (HtmlTextInput)form.getInputByName("q"); search.setValueAttribute("htmlunit"); HtmlSubmitInput submit = (HtmlSubmitInput)form.getInputByValue("Recherche Google"); HtmlPage page = (HtmlPage)submit.click(); System.out.println(page.getWebResponse().getUrl()); If you run that, it will print http://www.google.fr/search >From: Marc Guillemot <mgu...@ya...> >Reply-To: htm...@li... >To: htm...@li... >Subject: Re: [Htmlunit-user] Need to use a browser after an htmlUnit test >Date: Tue, 10 May 2005 10:59:17 +0200 > >can you provide an example with the url you get and the one you expected? > >Marc. > |

I tried this before with this code but with all the tested websites (Gmail, Google, Voila) it displays the source page not the result page. isn't it just: HtmlPage page = (HtmlPage)submit.click(); //Now I want to give the url of the resulting page to a component (a JDic webBrowser) to display it. //The code backward allows me to login so I may see my mail box. There's also a 302 error if you try this example, but I don't care, gmail is just an example to help me to understand. Gael |

What do you mean that you can't "recover the mailBox url" in Gmail? Are you talking about the initial URL that "loads" the inbox, like this: http://gmail.google.com/gmail?&ik=&search=inbox&view=tl&start=0&init=1&zx=xsrkd6-mkd75r In order to "catch" that, you'll probably have to turn off either JavaScript or redirects (or both). Assuming you have an HtmlPage object (NOTE: method names are from memory; they may be slightly different): WebClient webClient = htmlPage.getWebClient(); webClient.setRedirectEnabled(false); webClient.setJavaScriptEnabled(false); You'll have to do this AFTER you load the initial page, but BEFORE you submit the "Sign In" button in the Gmail example. Are you assigning the output from the submit() method after you submit the form? That will be the resulting html page. Hi, I work on an application that automates the forms' filling and display the result page on a swing component. It's possible thanks to HtmlUnit but I need to recover the resulting web page to continue to navigate. the method asXml can't give me an online way to display the page and getFullyQualifiedUrl is useless with some websites (like gmail: try to automate the login form, you can't recover the mailBox url). Could you help me ? Thanks, Gael |

thank you for the feedback brad. as i started to look at the getPage overloading, i see exactly what you mean. Whatever everyone thinks is the best implementation will work for me. I'm asking lots of questions because I don't like overloading getPage...I just finished cleaning up that mess! :) It seems like adding a setVirtualHost on HttpWebConnection would be able to accomplish what you need and minimize the testing needs. Due to the client pooling in there you'd need to store the value in HttpWebConnection but I think that could disappear when the pooling does. At one point it was suggested that the goal was to expose the HttpClient to the user for doing things like this. Maybe it would be better to figure out how to go about that instead? Images and CSS are never loaded, client DOM and JavaScript processing is not optimized, and multithreading is still getting the kinks worked out. While I could see it being used for performance testing I don't think it will be in the near future. Brad C |

Does the image even get downloaded, or is it completely ignored? I've got javascript that's doing something along the likes of the following function xyz() { var x = new Image(); x.src = "http://perfserver:2000/sendmsg.cgi?param1=value1¶m2=value2; } This function is then called in the onload() and onunload() functions to communicate back to a server (other than the web server) data regarding the performance of rendering the page. This is a handy bit of functionality, since the setting of the src property causes the page to be fetched to the browser cache which, in this case, is sending encoded data to a server asynchronously. Since the Image variable is never displayed, you don't have to worry about hiding it in the page somewhere, and you don't really care what comes back from the URL (since it is intended to transmit data). If you are using HTMLUnit to do performance testing as well as functionality testing, then handling images is important, both the download and render phase, since they contribute significantly to the overall "load" time of a web page. Or do you not see HTMLUnit being used for performance testing at all? Dave |

Any thoughts on when the Image datatype in javascript will be fully implemented in HTMLUnit? For javascript executed in any major web browser you can declare a variable of type Image and then assign a value to the src property. If that value is an URL, it will be downloaded and cached in the browser, but not, at that point, displayed. It can be displayed later if desired, via document.write() for example. I am working with some javascript code that uses this Image functionality to communicate performance data (time to render first byte, time to render entire page, for example) to a server by encoding it in the URL assigned to the src property. Sadly, without the Image datatype being fully implemented, this functionality does not work in HTMLUnit. Thanks, Dave |

I think that we can only have good tests for such a feature if we embed a web server in our tests. It is not yet the case but it's a big TODO for our tests. I've had a look on how to embed jetty and start tests against it for a while but didn't find time to go further. Marc. Hi, has anyone paired htmlunit with JMeter to take advantage of JMeters graphing results, and various splines for analysis? For anyone that has used JMeter, there has to be a way, that you can configure the Proxy server, to record you htmlunit tests...I have tried but with no luck...I am assuming it has something to do with the proxy configuration and the ports.. Thanks Again! Ed |

Brad, I want to run test cases for hostnames that are not registered in DNS, and don't want to hack the hostnames into /etc/hosts on every machine that the tests will run on. So I want to embed the /etc/host virtual host mapping into the HttpClient. That functionality is available through commonsHttpClient.getParams().setVirtualHost("www.mydomain.com"); http://jakarta.apache.org/commons/httpclient/3.0/apidocs/org/apache/commons/ httpclient/params/HostParams.html#setVirtualHost(java.lang.String) Then you can htmlUnitWebClient.getPage with a URL "192.168.10.10" and if there are cookies on that site that reqire the domain to be "mydomain.com" it will work. That is useful for testing locally sites that have required cookies for the eventual DNS of the production site. I have very simple test cases with HtmlUnit that show this to work, but I am trying to break it down to JUnit tests with mock objects so I can submit a patch to HtmlUnit. Chris, > I would start by overloading the getPage call to add the extra > parameter. I would start by overloading the getPage call to add the extra parameter. This would then allow all of the existing calls still work and you would only be adding the test that calls your new method. Hey all, I need to allow virtual host functionality for my tests. After asking here a bit ago, I took the issue up with the HttpClient list. They showed my how to achieve this functionality which I began testing out thought the HttpClient in the HttpWebConnection class. turns out there was a bug in HttpClient, and they have now provided a patch. Now, I would like to add an additional parameter to WebClient.getPage(..) to take a String virtualHost in as well as a URL. I am not sure how to go about writing tests for this however, since none of the getPage(..) functions currently have tests, and since this is hitting right in the middle of MockWebConnection. Since the change also needs to go down into HttpWebConnection.getResponse(..) so I could add the tests there, but there are not currently any tests for the HttpWebConnection.getResponse(..) functions that i can model it after. Checking out most recent CVS sourceAll you need is the most recent html-unit jar, which can be transferred via disk or cd. So, something like this: - on your windown box, download the source from cvs - in that dir run "maven" - maven will download all the required libs for compilation, and eventually will produce a jar named "htmlunit-NextRelease.jar" - copy (via disk, CD, network) that file to your classpath on the unix machine - move the old htmlunit.jar out of the classpath - run it dan -----Original Message----- From: htm...@li... My stuff is on a unix machine, which unfortunately does not have internet capablilty(I am using the weblogic server as to test my web applications). Is there any way I can get that source downloaded to my windows pc, and then transferring it over to my unix box. In other words, is the current source able to be put on a disk or cd, and how would I merge that with the existing htmlunit. If not, what are my other options?? I am getting script exception errors, saying that the Setter configured but has not been implemented. Thanks Ed |

Hello, I wanted to get the current copy of the CVS source for htmlunit, and wondered about something... My stuff is on a unix machine, which unfortunately does not have internet capablilty(I am using the weblogic server as=20 to test my web applications). Is there any way I can get that source downloaded to my windows pc, and then=20 transferring it over to my unix box. In other words, is the current source able to be put on a disk or cd, and how would I merge that with the existing htmlunit. If not, what are my other options?? I am getting script exception errors, saying=20 that the Setter configured but has not been implemented. Thanks Ed |

But I am running v 1.5 and am seeing the problem . Do you mean that it is fixed in versions *after* 1.5?
