Oh :) I was referring to the bug report on asp tags.. Almost done now. Working on powerful build scripts now which should be a part of the next release as well. Bytway, I was thinking on one last design optimization - replacing the scan-evaluate mechanism with a hashtable, so as to reduce the scanner search from O(n) to O(1). I was thinking of doing a basic match initially to spark off a call to the relevant scan for confirmation. What do you think ? This is in response to the bug report (by nobody) :
"If there are some special characters(we found a problem=20
with <) within HTML comments then all lines upto that=20
line(on which the charcter is present) gets deleted=20
when you reprint the tag(using toHTML()). I have been=20
using Node.toHTML() and I am assuming that the tag will=20
get parsed as a HTMLRemarkNode and its toHTML() will=20
get called. Whatever the case the output is distinctly=20
different from the input. Even the starting HTML=20
comments i.e. <!-- get deleted. "

I couldnt reproduce this. Make sure you are using the latest Integration =
release. HTMLRemarkNodeTest.testTagWithinRemarkNode() checks for this =
bug - and it is passing. Also pls dont submit reports as nobody - then =
the response wouldnt reach you.

In order to read japanese site this is what i do
//usual code of creating HTMLParser and then loop to get say text nodes only
HTMLStringNode stringNode = (HTMLStringNode) node;

//System.out.println(stringNode.getText()); -- this will not work.
is this the right way to get/read japanese characters?
if not, what is the other way?
if yes, then shudnt we have a method in HTMLParser or HTMLReader to give me the default encoding used by HTMLParser i.e. '8859_4' currently.
unless i know this encoding i cannot get the desired result.

again from tomorrow..

in style tag
[2] HTMLFormTag bug fixed - allows changing of internal form attributes,
and is reflected in toHTML()
[3] HTMLFormScanner included in lineup of standard scanners
[4] Added default parser feedback object constructor in HTMLParser
[5] Only single LinkProcessor object created now for link and image
scanners - leading to better performance
[6] Added Base Ref Scanner - relative links to this can be handled
for both standard links and image locations
As you can see- all of this is based on community feedback - so pls keep the
feedback coming.
Im sorry for the delay in releases- I was swamped - just resigned from my
job, and am on vacation for a while.
I should be able to continue work on the parser from the 12th - in the
meanwhile, if anyone else wishes to work on adding stuff -pls feel free.
Areas of work left for production release 1.2 :
[1] Checking testcases on Linux - Can someone just run
com.kizna.html.AllTests - and give us a report of all the tests that failed
?
[2] Checking bug reports from Joe Ryburn on the user group "A linkScanner
issue" and Stephen Harrington "Problem Parsing a link"
[3] Adding functionality for the parser feedback object - we've got to give
some feedback for the logs, etc..
These are simple changes - I hope we can have some help..

[1] Feedback integrated into the API. Not yet functional - but will be =
over the next few releases. The API change has been put in early. This =
is the last planned change in the API for production release - 1.2.
[2] End of Line String implemented across all scanners. Some test cases =
might fail if run in linux - this will be fixed over the next =

Two of the bugs were in HTMLImageScanner.extractImageLocn() and its =
corresponding method in HTMLLinkScanner(). Fixed now, by removing \r as =
well.
Also - there was another bug in HTMLLinkScanner.evaluate() - we need =
to check if next char after A is \r (we were only checking \n).
All tests passing now.
BTW, currently all the test cases are geared to work on Windows. Do u
really think we need to open up all the test cases and set the line
separator character in case anyone happens to run the test cases on
UNIX. It does seem to be a terrific waste of time specially if we know
that all developers are going to be working on Windows.
There are a lot of people using the parser on linux. And I know at least =
one dev who uses only linux :)
Its not that bad, we just need to insert =
parser.setLineSeparator("\r\n"), and leave the rest of the testcase as =
is. If I find some time I will do it. Will be grateful if u can, as I =
will be on the road next week..
I might just find time to make the next release with your integration =

Can some enterprising developer analyze these classes and see how =
best to fit it into the parser ? Credit will be yours - acknowledged =
with the release.=20
e) I added a CommandLine class to the util package which you can use to =
handle command line parameters more easily. If you find anything =
confusing, let me know and I'll improve the JavaDoc for you.=20
This integration can also be looked at.
For product version - 1.2 , we shall stop with the above two items (and =

Hi Dhaval,
Thanks for your work last week on the separators and the new =
scanners. Some issues :
[1] HTMLParser does not seem to have setLineSeparator() - its only in =
HTMLNode at present.
[2] Do you think its a good idea to have system constants, like - =
LINUX_SEPARATOR, or WINDOZE_SEPARATOR - which would map to "\n" and =
"\n\r" respectively ?
[3] It seems that only two scanners are using the line separator =
currently. I guess this means we have some work to do in completing this =
integration with all the scanners and tags ? If so, can you continue =
your good work in this week as well, and complete this integration ?
Dhaval -- thank you once again for putting your time on this project. I =
am totally swamped at present, but I will be active soon. It is however =
a great idea to have more good designers like Dhaval to be familiar with =
the parser - so that development does not get stuck due to me.

Hi Folks,
Integration Release 1.2-2002_08_26 is out. From the change log :
[1] Added new tag-scanner pairs for the following tags:
(i) INPUT
(ii) TEXTAREA
(iii) OPTION
(iv) SELECT
[2] The newline character being used in toHTML() was different across
different tags and also in some cases in scan() methods of scanners. It
has been changed to pick up the system property "line.separator" from
the JVM environment and that is used in toHTML() as well as scan().
Alternatively, users can set their own line separators using
HTMLParser.setLineSeparator() or HTMLNode.setLineSeparator(). Both have
the same effect.
[3] Fixed HTMLRemarkNode bugs (594301)
[1] and [2] were done by Dhaval Udhani, of OrbiTech Solutions Ltd.
[3] was done by John Zook. John - thanks for sending in the bugs and =
their fixes (its a pleasure to receive the latter with the bug reports).

Uh oh... firewall and ssh,cvs dont mix... Thats a real pain. What u need to do is ask ur firewall admin to open port 22 for ssh. Failing that, send me the files and I will update. Hi Somik, I am getting the following error when I am trying to create a new Repository Location in Eclipse. CreateProcess: ssh -l dhavaludani cvs.htmlparser.sourceforge.net cvs server error=2. Well - here's a tentative list :
[1] Create configurable end-of-line marker. Modify all scanners =
(toHTML()) to use this
[2] Create auto-detectable end-of-line marker. This could be a =
special/default option
These two tasks directly relate to your need, so you'd be in the best =
position to implement them. As u go ahead, make sure that the test cases =
are passing.

- it has bug fixes by John Zook.
I was thinking of making the next release with something more
substantial - particularly the end-of-line char issue resolved, and
the parser feedback integrated..
