Hi everyone. It's been quite a while, as you'll undoubtedly notice. I had hoped to be able to put moire time in the project this year, but life decided otherwise. I eventually relocated in Brussels, and changed jobs as well. I have been thinking about the project lately, and it appears I won't be able to spend as much time as I would like to with it in the near future, so I came to the conclusion that I'd better pass the project admin status to whomever is interested in pushing it forward. What we have at this point is a description of a yet-to-be-created application, or framework, and a nice design document. That's the itch to be scratched :) Those of you who are familiar with copyright and DRM issues will no doubt understand the importance of creating a ebook reader standard that is opensourced and relies on open standards. I recently discovered the joys of OpenOffice and its open file formats (just try it for yourself : go to openoffice.org, download the suite, open a ms word .doc file, save it as openoffice document, rename the resulting .sxw file in a ;zip file, unzip it, and oh surprise, it contains only plain text xml documents, that are fairly standard and portable.), they achieved here something very similar to what i had in mind when originating this process. I intend to post an ad in sourceforge saying the project is looking for a new leader, next week., if no-one in the current developpers applies for the position. I feel the project has not been evolving lately because it lacked me (or another project leader) to push things forward, attract developpers and get things done. I of course welcome your advice and opinions on this :) CU all. |
