Thanks for that, Jim!  I am glad it isn't just my system.

The OS X crash is probably a good thing to look at, if it occurs early=20
in the dig.  (a) Could you please post (or mail me) the complete=20
backtrace?  (b) Does it still occur without compression?  (c) Are you=20
using zlib-1.1.4?  (I have had core dumps with earlier versions, but=20
not since upgrading.)
