Those of us who are active developers have our hands full with other projects and don't have the interest at the moment to work on Unicode. My feeling is that the first step towards Unicode would be to get the htword/mifluz backend synched with the mifluz CVS tree, which should be more useful for Unicode applications. (It's also less bug-prone from what I can tell.) Since others seem interested in this possibility, perhaps I should spin the 3-2-x branch back to the mainline and fork a branch for synching with mifluz. While I don't think any of us intended to see Unicode in 3.2, if you have the resources to make this happen, it certainly won't be turned away.
