Ed, Not knowing how to do it in htdig, I can recommend some hackish ways to do it. 1) if you're so inclined, use the PHP wrapper for HTDig. After a little tweaking, I'm quite happy with it. With this you regex your way to correctly format specific date strings http://www.htdig.org/files/contrib/wrappers/ 2) I know you wanted to make it easy for them, you could have a special form for searching dates that has three fields (day month year) and then concatenates the date strings together in the proper format server side, pre search.
