Is there anyway to configure htdig to give older index entries a lower
precedence than newer?
My main use of htdig is to index mailing list archives ... I would really
like to be able to give older archive entries a lower relevance score than
newer ... without sacrificing accuracy.

Maybe you could be interested in the 'date_factor' attribute for htsearch:
