Hi, Chris. The cancel button on the scanner definitely won't help, just as the scan button doesn't help. If cancelling the scan from SANE (xsane or xscanimage) causes problems with corrupted or deleted output files, then my suggestion would be to set the scan window height to a little less than the length of the page (i.e. 10.9" for an 8.5"x11" page).
