Allen, maybe two weeks or so ago I have published a patch against 
hpoj-0.7 that allows hpoj to run with 2.4 kernels. As for the time
being I have received only two reports on success - one from myself.

I have the impression with hpoj 0.7 on Linux 2.4 that scanning now
no longer slower than on a 2.2 system. 

I have no idea about SMP systems (I just have a one processor box
at home).

In case my patch did not make it into the mailing list archive, just 
drop me a note.
