[hpoj-devel] ptal problem

I have a new HP PSC500.  I got and compiled hpoj 0.7 and installed on my
Debian (began as 2.1, now mostly updated) system with kernel 2.2.10.  The
hpo and ieee12488print applications work.  Anything that uses ptal gives the
following:
   ptalProviderLookup(name=<"mlc:mlcpp0">): provider not found!
The port _is_ 0.  Any ideas what I may have done or failed to do to cause
this ?
