I just bought an HP PSC2410, and I decided to mail the result to the hpoj as ... everything went perfectly! Connexion on USB1, power on, and then I run ptal-init setup as root. The printer was detected and a new device created (mlc:usb...). The "hpoj" line was already uncommented in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf so when I ran xsane everything started as it should. I get the PSC2410 pdd file at linuxprinting.org (I think it might be in one of the CD that go with the printer but I didn't even open them!) and copy that file in /usr/share/cups/model directory. Adding the new printer under cups was very simple. It prints rapidly and nicely, scan quite fast and, well that's not vey important but... it looks rather pretty! Only one thing, why is it not clearly written on the box that this printer is supported under linux? And of course many many thanks to the developpers of the hpijs and hpoj project as they've done a great job. Btw how can I help? I only know C and my job deals with image processing, maybe it could help. Bertrand |
