I was all set to buy this scanner, but am not doing so based on the problem you've cited. Hopefully the emerging popularity of linux on the desktop will soon show HP and other hardware vendors that they are losing sales due to inadequate support for that OS. It is certainly good to see projects like this one, and I appreciate HP's efforts in that regard.
