Hi All, I recently purchased HP 4215xi All-in-one. It really looks small, sleek and cute for it's size and features. I successfully managed to install it on a WinXP Professional computer using it's USB connectivity. Printed a few Windows Test pages. I have a small home network of 2 other Linux computers (1 laptop & 1 desktop, both running Mandrake 10 Official). I want to be able to use my HP 4215xi all-in-one from these other and possibly more computers without having to directly connect the printer to them for printing. Is that possible? And how? After scorching the internet for possible solutions, 1. I installed Windows TCP/IP print services for Unix on the WinXP Pro box and also installed the 4200 PPD file on my Mandrake 10 laptop. Then, tried printing a Test page from my Linux laptop to the WinXP connected printer, But the printer never prints it. Altough, the printer does load the paper, makes a lot of noises and says "Printing..." on it's LCD panel. Moreover, the print jobs submitted from the Linux laptop cannot be deleted in the Windows printer queue. I have to stop the Windows print spooler service and manually delete them from C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\Printers\... What's wrong? 2. I came across this article http://mywebpages.comcast.net/heretrythis/hp3100/psemuxp.html . I haven't tried it as yet. I understand that in this case, the Linux computer just submits the real job to the WinXP computer who converts it to the HP printer specific job using it's Windows driver. And, the previous case, the Linux computer with the HP 4200 series PPD installed was trying to convert the real job to printer specific job by itself and trying to submit it to the printer. Is that correct? I apologize for the long winding post. But, I thought a brief description would help someone understand the problem and suggest a solution. Thanks in advance, Sandeep Khanna |
