Hi, I've followed the instructions to the letter (I think!) and hpoj-0.91 is installed with no errors, but nothing prints. Background: - Laptop is an HP Omnibook 4150 - O/S is Knoppix (Debian) on kernel 2.4.24-xfs, freshly installed - Printer is a brand-new HP PSC 1210 - All the prerequisites are there, as called for in the 'compiling and installing' section of the manual: gcc 3.3.3 g++ 3.3.3 ld 2.14.9.0.0.7 perl 5.8.3 bash 2.05b libusb-0.1.so.4 xscanimage xsane - when I installed libusb-dev, it required the line "none /proc/bus/usb usbfs defaults 0 0" to be added to fstab, so I did, and it mounts successfully on bootup. - I downloaded & compiled the hpoj tarball yesterday into /usr/local: - "./configure" reported no missing dependencies. It did state that the xojpanel is disabled (that's OK - this printer doesn't support that anyway) - "make install" proceeded ok, returning no errors except for: a. a warning about setting the $PATH. I checked in /etc/profile, and /usr/local/bin and /usr/local/sbin are both already in the PATH. (I don't have a profile.d file that I can find) b. A warning to update the rc#.d files (I did) -I ran "ptal-init setup" as root from a console. It identified the printer correctly, and there were no errors. - "ptal-devid", "ptal-ph", "ptal-connect -service ECHO" all worked as expected Problems: -----> "ptal-print </dev/null" returned a 'successful' message, but there was no action on the printer - not so much as a blinking light. -----> Next, I set up the printer using CUPS, found the "PTAL" device and tried all the listed drivers (there were 3 suggestions for HP deskjets) Test pages were always reported successful by CUPS, but nothing printed. Any and all help will be VERY much appreciated. Thanks! -- Neil Marsh Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan |
