Similar problem here. It's well known for years. Maybe there are two
reasons:

1. SuSE 9.1 kernel doesn't support libusb - at least with the 
   x86_64 version

2. There used to be some problems especially with the G85. If the
   device is in energy saving mode, communication with the device
   is broken - sometimes.
   A workround may be to power cycle the G85.
