Have you tried the release version of hpoj instead of the version from CVS? 

Did you try scanning?

Since I can't remember if Debian installs the headers or not, make
sure you install the libusb-devel package if one exists.  If nothing
else, make sure you have a /usr/include/usb.h file.

Did you install the PPD from
http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=HP-PSC_1100 ?

Note that the above link talks about getting the CVS version because
of a bug in hpoj 0.9.  That bug was fixed in 0.91 which is the current
release version

I have a 1210, which is a similar printer, and it works fine.
