Hi, as far as I can see, development of hpof has stalled with PC fax capabilities for most devices being unimplemented (i.e. "PC fax send: not yet" and "PC fax receive: no or not yet"). Now what would you suggest me: I'd love to have a fax device which is able to operate standalone (sending faxes without the computer, and receiving faxes for immediate printout). That's what an OfficeJet is supposed to do, right? But additionally, I'd like to be able to *send* faxes from a Linux workstation (the one the OfficeJet would be connected to), and, perhaps even more important: I'd like to be able to *receive* faxes on the Linux workstation. Whereas receiving faxes on the Linux system would mean that the OfficeJet should receive and store the faxes (even without the Linux system running), and that I should be able to retrieve the faxes from the OfficeJet. That's what *I* would expect an all-in-one device being able to do ;-) But, as far as I can see, there's no single all-in-one device on the market (HP, Epson, Canon whoever) that works as standalone fax machine, as fax memory and as fax modem--not in Windows and even more not in Linux. So do you have any suggestions for me? Should I buy both an all-in-one device *and* a fax modem with memory, should I save the money for the all-in-one, and better just buy a fax modem and a cheap scanner and (photo;-) printer? Or is there any better solution? How much work would it be to fill in the fax gaps from the hpoj TODO list? Would it pay off? If I should go with the fax modem, what kind of fax modem with standalone memory could you suggest me? (The cheaper the better ;-) Oh yes, I will only rarely use the fax functions at all. Thanks, Gregor |
