hi, i tried moving from ptal to hplip. the basic installation is ok. but i d not get the printer uri with /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp all i get is direct hp:/no_device_found "Unknown" "hp no_device_found" is something wrong with cups? or are there still some leftovers from ptal? i'm running suse linux 9.1 with Linux linux 2.6.5-7.111.19-default #1 Fri Dec 10 15:10:58 UTC 2004 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux (from uname -a) thanks in advance manfred |

Is your device on the parallel port? If yes, then you still have to stay with HPOJ for some time, because parallel support is still under developemnt. But it is at the front of the line because it's urgently needed by the distros. Did you stop the ptal service? have you tried unplugging and plugging the printer back in? Which printer is this?
