After spending a few late nights trying to get my PSC 2410xi to
work under SuSE 9.1 and sane-1.0.15-0.pm.0.i586.rpm, I was
finally successful (?) , and I *think* that this may apply to David's setup.
The solution was to wander down to /lib/modules, do an 'ls' to
find the correct directory for my currently running (from the SuSE
updates) kernel, 2.6.5-7.111-smp, and then carefully descend into
a maze of twisty passages to:
/lib/modules/2.6.5-7.111-smp/kernel/drivers/usb/image
and check to see if 'hpusbscsi.ko' is sitting there waiting to be loaded:
modprobe hpusbscsi
At that point, a 'scanimage -L' suddenly reported:
device `hpoj:mlc:usb:psc_2400_series' is a hp psc 2400 series
multi-function peripheral
A brief 'scanimage -l 0 -t 0 -x 215.9 -y 296.926 ' seemed to induce
appropriate sounding mechanical noises from the PSC2410xi,
and now xscanimage seems to be willing to let me play. I haven't tried
actually scanning a document yet, but I feel I'm in much better shape now.
No, I don't know where this particular module is documented...
