Yes, it is completely different, and due to the lack of leverage and
various other factors, it would have to be a completely separate project
from this one.

I can't vouch for other brands, but my suggestions would be either the
OfficeJet G series, K series, or the LaserJet 3200, which was just announced
on Monday. Despite its resemblance to its unsupported predecessors, the 3200
uses the same protocols as the other supported HP MFPs, and after doing some
testing with hpoj I updated the list of supported devices
(http://hpoj.sourceforge.net/suplist.shtml) to reflect that. Note that
scanning is not yet supported on the class of devices including the 3200,
but I'm working on that.
