I have a PSC 1350 that I can't get working. I have tried deleting the installation several times and starting over from scratch for this. Everything seems to setup fine, and it recognizes that the printer is there and KDE, cups, and yast are all able to tell me that they see the printer. However, when I try to print it just sits at the processing stage forever and never prints. From the command line is says that connecting to the device failed. linux:/home/root # ptal-device mlc:usb:psc_1300_series linux:/home/root # ptal-print `ptal-device` ptal-print: connecting to device "mlc:usb:psc_1300_series"... failed! Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions. Thanks David |

After installing the driver, I ran the "Testing basic device connectivity" section of Setting up basic device connectivity <http://hpoj.sourceforge.net/hpoj-0.91/doc/setup-connect.html>. This verified the functional aspect of the USB --> printer connection. Contrary to what the HPOJ doc recommended, I used the Mandrake printer setup tool instead of the CUPS WWW tool to setup my printer queues. Every time I used the CUPS tool, I got zip, nothing. I found myself completely confused as to what needed to be done with CUPS WWW to setup the printer, the printer drake made it easy. BTW, the printers have been installed and running fine for about 4 months now. Prior to that, they would run a few days and mysteriously go offline! bruce, david, I initially had difficulty due to some conflict with printer.o (with my PSC 1350). After I got the latest bits and built it myself, this conflict is resolved. Prior to doing that, I had to: ptal-init stop stop cups (/etc/init.d/cupsys stop) rmmod printer restart cups restart ptal-init Then I could print. Try the latest bits though first if you haven't (and I'd suggest build it yourself instead of using pre-packaged bits--that's more likely to reflect your current configuration.) YMMV, -dave (Not associated with hpoj team.) On Sun, 2004-10-10 at 06:24, bbales wrote: > On Sunday 10 October 2004 03:26, David Vestal wrote: > > I have a PSC 1350 that I can't get working. I'm running RH-9 and /etc/init.d/cupsys does not exist, so this didn't work. No cupsys on the system. /usr/sbin/cupsd stop didn't work ("unknown argument"). > Try the latest bits though first if you haven't > (and I'd suggest build it yourself instead of using pre-packaged > bits--that's more likely to reflect your current configuration.) I don't have any idea what "bits" are or what this means. bruce |
