Hi, I have a problem to get the HPOJ G85 working under SuSE 9.1 ptal-init finds the printer and doesn't give any error messages. ptal-devid gives the followig output # ptal-devid ptal-devid: Failed to retrieve device ID string for device "mlc:usb:OfficeJet_G85"! Syntax: ptal-devid [<devname>] [-previous] [[<modifiers>] <queries>]... Where <devname> may be one of: mlc:usb:OfficeJet_G85 Supported <modifiers> (for following <queries>): -previous -- Gets previous string (must be first option) -short -- Displays field values only -long -- Displays leading field name through semicolon Supported <queries>: -field <key> -- Queries specific field -mfg -- Queries manufacturer fields -mdl -- Queries model fields -cmd -- Queries command set fields -sern -- Queries serial number fields What is wrong? Maybe there are two reasons: 1. SuSE 9.1 kernel doesn't support libusb - at least with the x86_64 version 2. There used to be some problems especially with the G85. If the device is in energy saving mode, communication with the device is broken - sometimes. A workround may be to power cycle the G85. Perhaps you will get an answer on the SuSE mailing list.
