Hello, I recently purchased a OfficeJet V40 (USB). The device is correctly listed in /proc/bus/usb/devices, but when I run "ptal-init setup", it finds no device. The probe for /dev/usb/lp0 takes about 15 seconds; the ones after that takes less than one second each. None of the probes is successful. The computer that the OfficeJet is connected to is running Debian Woody and the 2.6.5 kernel. The version of HPOJ is 0.8-11. Here are the first few lines from syslog after invoking ptal-init: Apr 30 18:24:24 playa ptal-mlcd: SYSLOG at ExMgr.cpp:660, dev=<usb:probe>, pid=27048, errno=111 ptal-mlcd successfully initialized. Apr 30 18:24:39 playa ptal-mlcd: ERROR at transport/ExMlcCommandChannel.cpp:243, dev=<usb:probe>, pid=27048, errno=11 Reply timer popped on port=0, count=1! Apr 30 18:24:39 playa ptal-mlcd: ERROR at ExMgr.cpp:853, dev=<usb:probe>, pid=27048, errno=25 exClose(reason=0x3002) Apr 30 18:24:40 playa ptal-mlcd: SYSLOG at ExMgr.cpp:660, dev=<usb:probe>, pid=27072, errno=111 ptal-mlcd successfully initialized. Apr 30 18:24:41 playa ptal-mlcd: ERROR at ExMgr.cpp:2332, dev=<usb:probe>, pid=27072, errno=19 Couldn't find device! Apr 30 18:24:41 playa ptal-mlcd: SYSLOG at ExMgr.cpp:660, dev=<usb:probe>, pid=27080, errno=111 ptal-mlcd successfully initialized. Should I try: - compiling the latest version of HPOJ (0.91) since I have 0.8 installed, or - going back from kernel 2.6.5 to 2.6.2 since the latest kernels seem to have USB issues, or - is there anything else I may have overlooked? Thanks, Peter _________________________________________________________________ Check out the coupons and bargains on MSN Offers! http://youroffers.msn.com |

I just had problems with my HP OfficeJet G55 not printing. CUPS would see it but nothing printed. I was told to upgrade my hpoj to .91 and now everything is working (printer). My scanner function died several years ago so I have not been able to use the scan function. I run SuSE 9.0 "Der Benutzer" <der...@ho...> wrote in message news:BAY...@ho...... > Hello, > > I recently purchased a OfficeJet V40 (USB).
