I just wanted to throw out a HUGE thanks to everyone responsible for the hpoj driver. I just purchased a MAC and was not able to print to my HP V40xi printer until I installed the driver. The directions were easy to follow although, I was looking for the download instructions on the site originally. So far, the driver seems to be working great. It's seems to be a little slower than printing from a PC but I am so happy that I am now able to print to this printer. I thought I would have to buy a new printer....which was Apple and HP's suggestion. THANK YOU and please keep doing what you do! ===== Tim Murphy Home:(610) 874-8389 Cell:(484) 680-1086 Fax:(419) 831-4076 __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Check out the new Yahoo! Hi, I'm new to this list and while I have the .9 version of hpoj working, I have a question about the printer type. I have an HP Office Jet All in One 7140xi and am running RH 9.0. Scanning works just fine as does printing. However, I am confused about exactly which printer driver to use. I selected the PhotoSmart 7150 with the hpijs driver, because 1) it seems to work and 2) I couldn't find the 7140xi in the list. Is the 7140xi specifically supported? Thanks Allen |

Sad to hear that you are leaving the project, I am sure you feel like "loosing a child". Nevertheless I would like to say that I consider your support level very high, and I hope the new team will continue the tight communication between all the volunteer testers (i.e. users) of hpoj and the HP developers. Thank you David, hope your new role in HP will satisfy you personally. Jarl |

Hi, everyone. (Sorry about the duplicate messages some of you are receiving.) I'm pleased to announce that version 0.91 of the HP OfficeJet Linux driver is now available at http://hpoj.sourceforge.net. Major changes include the following: - Enhanced USB support for the latest HP OfficeJet, PSC, and PhotoSmart printer models (using libusb). - Improved parallel-port performance (ECP hardware-assisted transfers). - Numerous bug fixes and documentation updates. At the same time, I'm also sad to announce that, due to HP organizational changes and management decisions beyond my control, I am no longer able to maintain, support, or otherwise contribute to the hpoj project. The people who bring you the hpijs print driver are now officially responsible for development and support of hpoj-related functionality. I'd like to welcome Dave, Don, Cory, and Shiyun onto the scene and wish them all the best of luck in their newly-expanded roles. Please continue to post any questions, problem reports, and other feedback to the hpoj-devel mailing list, unless you later hear otherwise. Finally, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your kind support of my efforts regarding the hpoj project over the last four years. (Thanks also to Mark Horn and Joe Piolunek for their ptal-cups and xojpanel contributions.) It has truly been a pleasure working with all of you, and your feedback has been extremely valuable in making the hpoj software what it is today. I feel incredibly lucky to have had the opportunity to work on a project like this, and perhaps we will meet again someday in a different capacity. David Paschal November 5, 2003 |

Hi. I'm forwarding the release announcement for hpijs-1.3.1. Among other things, this release corrects the printer-hang problem with the OfficeJet 500/600/700 and PSC 300 series products, where the device would require a power cycle after printing an hpijs-generated job in order to accept another print job. It should now be safe to use hpijs-1.3.1 with these models. Made a change to configure.in to check for uint32_t in stdint.h, machine/types.h and inttypes.h. 3. Added 600 dpi Best and 1200 dpi Photo to DJ9xx. 4. Added a new paper size for printing covers on Deskjet 3425. 5. Fixed a DJ850 extra page and top margin problem. 6. Fixed a Deskjet 1120/1125 multiple page problem. These printers now use the DJ9xx device class with limited support. Special credit goes to Matthias Bunte and Richard Spencer-Smith for providing input for the new DJ9xx 600/1200 dpi print modes. The new print modes are based on a patch originated by Matthias Bunte. See hpinkjet.sourceforge.net and the hpijs_readme.html file for more information. |

Hi, I'm pleased to announce that version 0.90 of the HP OfficeJet Linux driver is now available at http://hpoj.sourceforge.net. Major changes include the following: - A new "hpoj" SANE backend for scanning on all hpoj-supported models (also including the OfficeJet LX and 300 series). - Photo-card reader support for HP PhotoSmart printers and all-in-ones with this capability. - Support for CUPS (Common Unix Printing System) printing (thanks to Mark Horn). - Partial FreeBSD support (parallel-port and JetDirect but not yet USB connections). - Improved ease of use, especially with device management and scanning. - Improved setup and reference documentation. - Numerous bug fixes and smaller enhancements. I would like to thank all of the people who over the last year have helped test and provided feedback on the CVS development version of this new release. Those of you who would prefer a stable version are encouraged to migrate to this new release, especially if you've had problems with earlier versions. In addition, I will be at the LinuxWorld Expo (San Francisco) August 13-15, 2002, demonstrating this new version of the hpoj software in the HP booth. If you are attending this show, then be sure to stop by and say "hello". :-) Please post questions, problem reports, or other feedback to the hpoj-devel mailing list. Hi. I'm forwarding the announcement of the latest hpijs-1.2 release. The following changes are of particular interest to the hpoj project: - New device classes for DeskJet 540, 850, 890, and PCL-only monochrome LaserJets, which correspond to the OfficeJet LX/3xx, 1150, 1170/1175, and LaserJet 1100/3200, respectively. - When used with the newer "ijs" interface (as opposed to the older "hpijs" interface), you may now specify the actual model string for your OfficeJet instead of mapping it to the compatible DeskJet model. I have updated http://hpoj.sourceforge.net/suplist.shtml accordingly. David ------- Forwarded Message From: David Suffield <dav...@hp...> To: hpi...@li..., Ink...@li... Hi, I'm forwarding the hpijs-1.0.4 announcement, which among other things adds 1200x1200 dpi ("HiRes") support for "DJ9xxVIP"-based models (OfficeJet D series, PhotoSmart 1115/12xx/13xx). David -----Original Message----- From: David Suffield [mailto:dav...@hp...] Sent: Monday, March 18, 2002 6:02 PM To: hpi...@li...; Ink...@li... Subject: [Hpinkjet-announce] HP Inkjet Linux Driver 1.0.4 Release This HP Inkjet Linux Driver (HPIJS) release has the following changes. 1. Added a new HiRes mode to DJ9xxVIP device class. 2. Added support for paper sizes A3 and A5. 3. Removed Photo Full Bleed paper size and added a FullBleed parameter. 4. Fixed a duplex top margin problem with paper sizes other than Letter. 5. Fixed a duplex top margin problem with grey_k and grey_cmy. 6. Fixed a problem detecting B4 and B5 paper sizes. 7. Fixed a artifact (black vertical line) that could occur in the right margin. The new HiRes mode supports the maximum resolution for DJ9xxVIP device class. For these devices the box specification for resolution is 2400x1200. In the past no scaling was done to 2400 in the printer. Full bleed support is no longer a separate paper size. Full bleed is enabled with a new Ghostscript command called FullBleed. Now you just select your 4x6 paper size and set FullBleed=1. See hpinkjet.sourceforge.net and the hpijs_readme.html file for more information. Also, there is a known a bug in Ghostscript 6.53 (gdevijs.c) which swapped the top margin with the bottom margin. The attached patch file will fix it. $ patch -p0 < gdevijs2.patch Instead of having a 1/8 inch top and 1/2 inch bottom margin (IE: Letter), this was reversed. This was not a problem when -dDuplex=true, since both top and bottom margins are 1/2 inch. -DaveS |

In addition to the changes listed below, the hpinkjet driver is now officially Free software (BSD-like license), now that the "for use with HP products only" restriction has been removed. David -----Original Message----- From: David Suffield [mailto:dav...@hp...] Sent: Tuesday, February 19, 2002 3:24 PM To: hpi...@li...; Ink...@li... Subject: [Hpinkjet-announce] HP Inkjet Linux Driver 1.0.3 Release The HP Inkjet Linux Driver (HPIJS) now supports AFPL Ghostscript 7.04 and GNU Ghostscript 6.53. HPIJS is now compatible with the IJS client that comes with Ghostscript. This means the IJS client (gdevijs.c) included with HPIJS 1.0.2 is no longer needed. This release is compatible with IJS 0.33. In order to be compliant with IJS 0.33, the following Ghostscript commands have changed from HPIJS 1.0.2. 1. The Duplex command has changed from -dDuplex=n to a combination of -dDuplex and -dTumble. 2. HPIJS print mode parameters must use the "Quality:" prefix. The prefix will allow better management of parameter namespace. Ghostscript commands without the "Quality:" prefex are no longer supported. 3. The new Ghostscript command -dIjsUseOutputFD is required when using HPIJS. This release is still backward compatible with the HPIJS 0.97 interface. Hi, I'm forwarding the announcement of the new version 1.0 of the HP Linux Inkjet Driver, which among other things adds duplex-printing support. Read the full story at "http://hpinkjet.sourceforge.net". I haven't yet tried it out for myself so I may not be of much help with it, but feel free to post your experiences with it on the hpoj-devel mailing list. There don't appear to be any RPMs, so for now hpijs will have to be compiled from source, and ghostscript may or may not have to be recompiled. Hi, RedHat 7.x RPMs (i386 and source) for hpoj-0.8 are now available at http://hpoj.sf.net (click on "Download"). Thanks to John Chmielewski for providing these packages. If you have any problems with these packages, then please write to the hpo...@li... mailing list, not to me directly. (My apologies for not getting around to posting them until now.) In addition, Mandrake 8.1 (currently in beta) will include hpoj-0.8. Users of current versions of Mandrake can download this package (split into multiple parts) out of the Mandrake "Cooker". See the hpoj download page for more information. On another note, I posted a few photos from LinuxWorld Expo last week, where I demoed hpoj-0.8 in the HP booth. In case anybody's wondering, "sf.net" is a somewhat new alias for "sourceforge.net". It saves wear-and-tear on the wrists when I have to type it as much as I do. :-) David |

Hi, I'm pleased to announce that version 0.8 of the HP OfficeJet Linux driver (hpoj) is now available at http://hpoj.sourceforge.net. Major changes include the following: - A completely new low-level I/O driver, with new USB support and greatly improved parallel-port support for both the MLC and 1284.4 protocols. - Enhanced support for peripherals connected to HP JetDirect print servers. - New command-line scanning application for the following models not yet supported by SANE: - OfficeJet 500, 600, 700, and T series; - PSC 300 series; - LaserJet 1100A, 1220, and 3200 series. - Broader model support and updated appearance for the xojpanel application, which can now co-exist with other applications or copies of itself. - Greatly improved installation process and documentation. I would like to thank all of the people who over the last five months have helped test and provided feedback on the CVS development version of this new release. Those of you who would prefer a stable version are encouraged to migrate to this new release, especially if you've had problems with earlier versions. Hi, I'm forwarding the announcement about the release of SANE version 1.0.5. There isn't really any new functionality with regards to the OfficeJets, but I did update the "sane-hp" manual page to reflect the new format of PTAL device names, which is currently used in the hpoj CVS code and will be used in version 0.8, which I expect to release in the next 4-6 weeks. This means that in the meantime, the SANE 1.0.5 documentation will be inconsistent with the way things work in hpoj-0.7. So where you see something like "mlc:par:0" in the SANE documentation, you would continue to use "mlc:mlcpp0" in hpoj-0.7 and earlier. Hi, HP has released version 0.96 of the hpinkjet drivers, which are compatible with most OfficeJet models. This update fixes a problem with using the DeskJet 600-series drivers (DJ6xx or DJ6xxP) on the OfficeJet 500, 600, 700, and PSC 300 series. Previously, I had made a patch to fix this available at http://hpoj.sourceforge.net/todo.shtml. The announcement from http://linuxtoday.com/news_story.php3?ltsn=2001-05-23-004-20-NW-HW-SV is included below. This release can be downloaded at http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=16846 The following release notes describe the release: ****************************************************** HP Linux Inkjet Driver 0.96 Release Updated the hpijs driver to APDK 2.4 which adds support for the following printers. DeskJet980 DeskJet960 DeskJet350 Photosmart 1000/1100 Photosmart 1215/1218 Thanks to David Paschal's input, we made a change to the PCL header (header.cpp). Which will allow the hpijs driver to work with the OfficeJet 500, 600, 700 and PSC 300 series printers. This was only a problem when running in MLC mode using the ptal-printd demon. Made a small change to the top and right margins in gdevhpij.c. This corrects a problem where both ghostscript and hpijs were trying to set the margins. Added some query commands to the gs/hpijs communication interface. These commands can be used to return current printer parameters. This release is backward compatible with HPIJS 0.95. **************************************************** Thanks, The Linux Deskjet Team http://hpinkjet.sourceforge.net |

Hi, HP today released new ghostscript print drivers for selected DeskJet printers at http://hpinkjet.sourceforge.net. The news brief is attached to the end of this message. I haven't yet had a chance to test these drivers with the OfficeJets, but I did update the "supported devices" page (http://hpoj.sourceforge.net/suplist.shtml) to reflect which drivers I think should work with which OfficeJets. In the meantime, the adventurous may feel free to try it out and report their experiences/problems to the hpoj-devel mailing list. :-) However, general (non-OfficeJet-specific) questions and problems with these drivers may be better suited for the help/discussion forums on the hpinkjet project, since I was not involved with this development effort. Note that the OfficeJet Pro 1150C/1170C/1175C are not supported by the new drivers at this time, but from my experience the cdj850 driver seems to give better print quality than the cdj550 driver on these models. David ------------------ HP Linux Inkjet Driver 0.93 Initial Release The HP Linux Inkjet Driver is a add-on to the GNU Ghostscript application. The source code for this driver is available at http://hpinkjet.sourceforge.net . This driver is based on the HP Appliance Printing Development Kit (APDK) at http://hpapdk.com for Deskjet printers. HP is enhancing the Linux printing experience by delivering a software solution that provides very good print quality. The HP driver provides support for more than 30 Deskjet printer models. The driver supports two print modes - plain paper normal, and photo paper best. The HP driver uses GPL Ghostscript to convert PostScript into print rasters that are passed through shared memory to our driver that executes as a server. A Ghostscript update kit is included with the HP solution. For complete information see http://hpinkjet.sourceforge.net . |
