Looks like a great program. I've been using Greenshot but HotShots has more editing features. I installed 2.2 on my Windows 7, 64 bit computer but it will not open. I have no system tray icon and no entry for Hotshot in MSCONFIG or SERVICES. It is however listed in "TheHive" program group. I uninstalled Greenshot and Ditto (clipboard manager) prior to installing HotShots to be sure there would not be any conflicts. I also checked the downloaded executable for viruses or malware but it was clean. I'm out of ideas. THANKS in advance for any advice you may give me.

? Stange problem, I use it every day on a Seven 64 computer without problem. Have you the .exe in the "C:\Program Files (x86)\TheHive\HotShots" directory ?
Have you try to reinstall it ?
Just in case, have you try the "portable" archive ?

Thanks for the reply. The .exe is in the proper folder. I have uninstalled it, rebooted and re-installed it twice. I ran the portable batch file which opened a command window but did'n seem to output a potable file (or I don't know where it was saved if it was created). At this point I installed Greenshot to create the attached screen captures.

    I don't really understand your problem ?
When you launch HotShots, the main interface isn't shown and there is no icon in the system tray ?
Perhaps, this is a config problem. Can you try to launch the command "HotShots --reset-config" and then relaunch HotShots ?

    Thanks

OK - I uninstalled Greenshot and ran the HotShots config reset and launched HotShots again.

    main interface appears - no
    listed in msconfig - no
listed in task manager Applications - no
listed in task manager services - no
icon in task bar - no
icon in notification area - no

I assume the default key mapping is to the Print Scrn key. When I press that key, the current full window is copied to the Windows clipboard.

    Any other suggestions?
    THANKS

You can keep Greenshot installed, there is no interaction between programs except if you launch them at the same time and have select the same "hot keys".
So the main interface is never displayed ?
Perhaps, an interaction with UAC, an antivirus or an agressive firewall ?
Have you try to copy the TheHive/HotShots directory in another location (e.g. directly in c:) ?

The default print screen key for HotShots isn't PtrScr because this key is a "system" key (this is the same think on linux). HotShots use a plarform independant implementation so I can't intercept this key without write specific code for each platform.

You problem is very strange ...

Tried to install with anti-virus disabled, firewall off and UAC set to lowest setting. HotShots is listed in Programs and Features but the interface doesn't open. If I double click the Desktop icon, I receive a message that HotShots is already running. Wanted to install HotShots because it has better annotation features than Greenshot but it looks like I'll have to settle for Greenshot. Greatly appreciate the time you have devoted to trying to help me. THANKS

    Have you several screens ?

If you mean monitors, I only have a single monitor. If you mean screens opened by HotShots, the program interface has never appeared.

Sorry, yes I mean monitors. I am completely lost with your problem, I do not know what to do to resolve it. :(

    Hi!

I had same problem as Jeffrey in first comment: Windows 7, x64, tried HotShots
v2.1.1 and v2.2.2, but nothing. Whatever I did application exited after starting with
no visible results of doing something in the system.

But because other annotation applications so scared me, I spent some time investigating
this issue and found solution that work.

Briefly: there is a problem with library 'plugins\libqfi.dll'. If I move this library out of application tree everything begin to work ok.

This is a temporal solution, I think that it will be fixed in new versions (e.g. working
of this problem library could be debugged).

Going to like this app, because other annotations apps are ugly.

Thx a lot for this application!
