Vision and direction for HORUS

In creating the HORUS project, the goal is to create an interface which bring Linux into the hands of more users. The HORUS project is aimed at both business and home users, equally. Business users will take advantage of the expense report manager, datebook, and e-mail applications. Home users will appreciate the mp3 player and CheckMate finance software.

By utilizing the Qt Embedded 3.x library, HORUS has the power to create very powerful applications which run comfortably on devices such as the Compaq iPaq. The inclusion of network protocol libraries, as well as SQL drivers and plugins, allows developers to create business-quality applications with ease. Creation of HORUS project

On October 19, 2001 work began on the HORUS project. HORUS, the Handheld Operating Resource for Unix Systems, aims to create a fully customizable, easy to use, business class user interface for Linux-compatible handheld computers. By utilizing the Qt Embedded 3.x library, HORUS will create a desktop environment for the Linux virtual frame buffer.

The HORUS project consists of an application "desktop", which provides application management features to the interface. Also included will be a set of utilities and applications which are suitable for both business and home users. Example of these applications are: Contacts manager, calendar, to-do list, calculator, media player, checkbook organizer and bill manager, and a small-scale web browser.
