Are you sure this isn't Eclipse's fault ? How are you compiling ? What's in the CLASSPATH ? Tom On 03/04/18 01:02, Phil Shields via Hl7api-devel wrote: > Hi all I'm new to hapi. Hi all I'm new to hapi. I use eclipse to construct web apps and I'm working my way through Developing using HAPI - By Example Eclipse resolves most of the ca.uhn.hl7v2 libraries except the following; ca.uhn.hl7v2.model.v22.datatype.PN; ca.uhn.hl7v2.model.v22.message.ADT_A01; ca.uhn.hl7v2.model.v22.segment.MSH; I have the libraries in the build path but eclipse can't fing the classes PN ADT and MSH.At least that's what I think. What am I doing worong?Many thanks,Phil |

First off, I would like to congratulate and thank each and every person who worked on the HAPI project, it is a phenomenally powerful library, awesome enough for me to decide to code a massive hospital ADT system around it. My project is really 2 separate projects : a web project for users to interact with the database (create patients, orders, etc) and a standalone java app which is used as a connection / messaging service to different HL7 interfaces. I am currently using the ConnectionListener interface for the usage (billing, inventory of a dispensing system) servers my service is running, something like this :
@Override
public void connectionReceived(Connection theC)
{
connectionEntity.setStatus("Connected");
connectionService.update(connectionEntity);
logEntryService.logInfo(LogEntry.CONNECTIVITY, "Usage connection for " + intfc.getName() + " received from " + theC.getRemoteAddress().toString());
}
@Override
public void connectionDiscarded(Connection theC)
{
connectionEntity.setStatus("Listening");
connectionService.update(connectionEntity);
logEntryService.logWarning(LogEntry.CONNECTIVITY, "Lost usage connection for " + intfc.getName() + " from " + theC.getRemoteAddress().toString());
}
This allows me to know, immediately, when a connection is established or lost and allows me to do all sorts of things in real time. I also have a bunch of client connections and I was unable to find an equivalent interface to notify me when the server side of my client connections goes down. I resorted to using monitor threads that check the result of the isOpen() method on my Connection objects every few seconds and, while it certainly does the trick, I was wondering if there was something more real time I could use. I did try to implement ConnectionListener on my HL7ClientConnection objects but the connectionDiscarded method is not fired when the server side goes down. In my IDE logs, I see the following being logged by HAPI when I stop the server my client connections are talking to :
2018-01-20 11:11:02.609 INFO 14536 --- [ hapi-worker-40] ca.uhn.hl7v2.llp.MllpDecoderState : End of input stream reached.
2018-01-20 11:11:02.609 INFO 14536 --- [ hapi-worker-40] ca.uhn.hl7v2.llp.MllpDecoderState : SocketException on read() attempt. Socket appears to have been closed: End of input stream reached before message starts
2018-01-20 11:11:02.609 INFO 14536 --- [ hapi-worker-40] ca.uhn.hl7v2.app.Receiver : SocketException: closing Connection from 192.168.0.175:2001, will no longer read messages with this Receiver: End of input stream reached before message starts

Can I somehow intercept / harness those exceptions in real time to avoid needing monitor threads?
Thanks!

Hi Hapi Developers, My name is Hong Ju. I need to upgrade my hapi from v23 to v26, but there are a lot of APIS deprecated from V23 to V26. I can't find any document to explain what will be the new APIS for the deprecated ones. For example, ADT_A13 (Cancel Discharge) is no longer supported in V26, what should be the new one for it? Would anyone please guide me on this? Your help is greatly appreciated. Hi at all. After reading this page (https://hapifhir.github.io/hapi-hl7v2/xref/ca/uhn/hl7v2/examples/HandlingCharacterEncodings.html) I have few questions about the reported instructions. I hope that someone can help me to clarify all my dubs. Below my questions. 1. In the page is said that "By default, MinLowerLayerProtocol uses the "US-ASCII". This is also true by using the last method in the page (line 76 of the page) if segment MSH-18 is not specified? 2. With the first method (line 40 of the page) if I set the character encodings to "UTF-8", the messages in "US-ASCII" are also received correctly? 3. What is the main difference between the method in the line 40 and the method in line 76? Only the use or not of the segment MSH-18 (if present)? 4. If I want to read at a later time an HL7 message, I must use the character encoding used when I had received this message? Thanks for your times, Lorenzo. |

Yes, this was added in v2.3. You construct a context as normal, then use HL7Service server = context.newServer(port, useTls, acceptAll); // e.g. 3456, false, true The receiver application class can then return true directly from canProcess() and all messages arrive to processMessage(). Hi at all. I need some help about the technique of receiving messages. In this page (https://hapifhir.github.io/hapi-hl7v2/xref/ca/uhn/hl7v2/examples/SendAndReceiveAMessage.html, line 87) I have read that exist a method to get all the incoming messages without specifies the typologies. Unfortunately, it seems that not work as expected. In fact, I get the below error: No appropriate destination could be found to which this message could be routed. Instead, If I set the typologies for the incoming messages then all seems to works. Then, my question is if there is really a method to get all the incoming messages without specifies the typologies. Thanks for your help, Lorenzo. |

I've always followed advice like http://www.hl7resources.com/Public/index.html?a55433.htm and constructed my own as YYYYMMDDHHMMSS + right(system_uptime_seconds,6) For some reason the HAPI JavaDocs at http://hl7api.sourceforge.net/base/apidocs/ca/uhn/hl7v2/... are no longer working, so I can't see if you can drop that in or not. Hi,
we have had an interface in production fail when we try to create a new
message and call .initQuickstart().
What is happening is the id_file is read and the value is coerced into a
number. Unfortunately the code uses an Int (10 chars long, max
value 2147483647) so once the value in the id_file is increased beyond that
limit this error occurs.
Is this a known limitation with using initQuickstart?
We have fixed it by resetting the value in the id_file to 1 (not ideal as
it no longer guarantees uniqueness)
As the MSH-10 is a string up to 20 chars surely this would work with Long
values (19 chars max value: 9223372036854775807)?
To replicate this issue create an id_file in your working dir with value:
2147483600
Then run this code:
Message msg = new ADT_A01();
msg.initQuickstart("ADT","A01", "X");
// throws NumberFormatException

Hi Hassan, I have never used the ASTM protocol unfortunately, but my understanding is that it is not a subset of HL7 v2.x so much as a protocol that looks similar but different to HL7. This would mean that it is not possible to parse it using HAPI. It is entirely possible that I am wrong about this given that I have never actually touched this protocol of course.
