#81 Migrate to git

In the past years more and more projects moved from svn to git. Personally I learned to appreciate the advantages of a distributed VCS, the ability to easily branch and merge your local clone, and to enable others to fork the central repo and provide pull requests as contributions.

So I wonder if we could also go this direction...
