To whom this may concern. I'm pleased to announce the immediate availability of the latest release of Project Hirtius (v1.07). Hirtius is a web-based historical research assistant created by Les Ateliers du Héron. Its goal is to replace the historian's notebook and box of cards, while providing a collaborative work environment for a whole team of researchers, that can be thought of as a purpose-built CMS cross-bred with a digital pictures management system, a genealogy application and a Wiki. Eventually, based on the information you stored in the application, and the links you created between the various data elements, Hirtius will also help you prepare the draft version of your scholarly papers. Contrary to what happened in past versions of Hirtius, v1.07 doesn't bring any user-visible new feature. Its main focus was the porting of the application to PHP8, which is now complete (while remaining fully backward-compatible with PHP7, of course). This porting effort was followed by a very thorough test campaign which lead to the discovery and subsequent resolution of a large number of bugs and issues of a more cosmetic nature. Still on the technical side, this version also includes a refactoring of some of the JavaScript functions used on most HTML forms, another one that impacts the way the debug flag is used and an expanded version information on the main Admin page. Hirtius v1.07 has been fully tested on openSUSE 15.6 with PHP 8.2. For a complete list of changes in this version, please refer to the 'Changelog' file, provided both as part of the distribution archive and on the project web site (see below). If you already installed an earlier release of the software, please refer to the 'UPGRADE' document (available in the same locations as the 'Changelog'). For more information about the program, please visit the application home page: <https://hirtius.sourceforge.io/> To download the installation archive, please visit the SourceForge project page: <https://sourceforge.net/projects/hirtius/> and click on the "Files" tab. Any question or comment is always welcome. Ph. A. |
