For years now, I have been nursing the dream of a capability-based, microkernel operating system for the Web.

Today, that dream has finally been kick-started.

The purpose of this blog entry is to get the reader acquainted with the concepts behind Orchid, its vision, design, and scope.

Many of today's operating systems are bloated, overly complex and insecure. Security shouldn't be an afterthought: it should be an integral part of any high-quality piece of software.
