Using THE 3.3 RC 1 on RHEL 5. Screen data is often garbled after inserting data in a line or positioning or just moving cursor up the screen. This is in XEDIT XEDIT XEDIT compat. I've been using THE for 15 years. I'll have to drop back to THE 3.3 B3 since RC 1 is definitely unusable.

    I keep 3.3B3 on a thumb drive as my fall-back version. I'm
using Windows 7 and my profile.the is designed to reside in the same
folder as THE. That way I can delete the environment variables for
THE_HOME_DIR, THE_HELP_FILE and THE_PROFILE_FILE and run THE directly
from the thumb drive. Of course profile.the has to make up for the
difference. I suspect you could do the same thing for Linux.

Logically, I suppose you could install different versions of THE on
any drive and do the same thing.

Seems a certain installation of RHEL 5 might be the culprint. TERM xterm is causing the garbled screen and xterm is NOT a good choice -- just one that allowed Function keys to operate. I just did two installations of Cent OS 5 (RHEL 5 clone) and THE 3.3 RC1 and function keys work fine. Probably I should have never tried TERM xterm for this setup.

Finally determined that the function keys were not working for TERM vt100 due to a libgpm call. I removed the libgpm call from libncurses.so and now the function and cursor keys are recognized. This is for the record.
