Also, when I mark a whole block with LL and LL, the L macro gets called the first time with the line number of the SECOND LL! This is obviously wrong.

Additionally, I compared L.THE to what's in the Xedit User's Guide and noticed a difference that might be important:

L.THE has: 'COMMAND EXTRACT /PENDING BLOCK' name '/'
L XEDIT : 'COMMAND EXTRACT /PENDING BLOCK' name ':0 :'pline'/'

And, for more fun: when I traced L.THE to find out what was happening, THE got confused about SET PENDING BLOCK put it in the Rexx Output file, along with adding two TOF markers, so the trace output file looked something like this:

===== >>> "0"
===== 64 *-* Else
===== 64 *-* 'COMMAND :'pline 'COMMAND SET PENDING BLOCK' name
===== *** Top of File ***
===== 65 *-* End
===== *** Top of File ***
ll *** Bottom of File ***

That's weird!
