Hi team; Hermes has been inactive for a short while due to moving, and beginning work on starting my business, and waiting for an internet connection where I now live. I am working on it again, and though my time is less than before. The major areas of improvement I see taking place in the future are: 1: User interface improvement 2: LDAP integration 3: Reporting capabilities 4: Development of SOAP API's that an application could use for a distributed environment. The major improvements of the last week include: 1: Better documentation 2: Additional API for hiding parameters in URL (EXPERIMENTAL) Best Wishes, Chris _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx |

Hi All I have written a spec for the main HERMES engine. It is now posted under the docs section. Soon, more docs will be forthcoming. Best Wishes, Chris _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com |

Hi; Creating tasks for the following components-- I will pick them up as I have time, but they are the priorities for me right now: 1: pam_ldap 2: debugging lib/email_gen 3: adding additional extensibility into the installer for creating config files in other directories. 4: Credit-card payment libraries (MCVE, Verisign, and third-parties). With these things done, I think that it will be possible to consider the main engine (not the CRM app, though) to have all the functionality it will eventually need, and I will break off the CRM application from the core engine for distribution purposes at that time. I will probably look at placing them into other cvs trees as well. But for now, I think that it is better if they are developed together. Hi all; I have nearly finished my debugging run on the PostgreSQL database layer after many modifications. Once this is complete, and the bugs related to it are closed, I want to release another development version. After that, the installer needs a little more extensibility on UNIX and Linux systems. HERMES development itself will slow a bit after that. I am involved in trying to build a huge e-commerce application for a company that some friends of mine and I are forming, and although HERMES will end up being important there (for reporting on customers once that functionality is implimented), the quantity of time I can spend on HERMES development will be a bit more limited. Hopefully this will be offset by more activity from others that I am working with (we need reporting functionality), but I cannot say. On the flip side, I think I can find someone to write a good installer for Windows using something like VBS. I am not sure that PHP is the right tool for this job. Hi; I have completed a basic form of PAM (pluggable authentication modules) for the HERMES program. These have now been integrated with the index.php and the installer scripts for *nix. The install documentation will be updated shortly. This completes the final piece of architectural work needed by the main engine to be extensible and flexible for many different types of environments. Once I get the install script done and the user management interface a little cleaner, I will release another alpha version. This will be designed to make it easier for people to impliment Hermes in a development environment. That being said, I am having a few problems with the PostgreSQL DBAL (the real problem seems to be that I installed PostgreSQL 7.2.1 over 7.1.3 and now I can't connect through PHP-- claims that pg_connect is undefined). Not sure if this is a PHP or a libpg problem. But I am working on resolving that one too. Hi folks, I came up with a prototype for the install script (Linux/UNIX) last night, but it had a design flaw (I had it set to delete the installer from the installation directory) but I accidently installed it into my working installation and deleted the installer. I should have a working prototype tomorrow or Thursday... :P Best Wishes, Chris Travers _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com |

Hello list subscriber type people. ;-) I am onboard as a tester. In view that I can not seem to find anything in the way of a "Design Specification" document, I will be basing my testing of the application based upon what doc's I find with its downloaded package, and what I see when I access it. I will be doing two test runs. One on MySQL and one on PostgreSLQ. Once complete, I will write up a Test Report document and submit it here to the list. If someone wants to chuck what passes for a design specification my way, that would be great. I will have the report to you soon. Nathan. |
