It sounded like this package would be the solution to starttls problems, but I can't detect
any behavioral change at all after installing hermes mail from the install package, and subsequently
installing the dll upgrade .
Before I move on, a couple of more general complaints.
You ought to do some minor editing to remove "qualcom" and install "hermes", just to
provide assurance that the new stuff is in use. I see no evidence of all the great new
features advertised in the hermes mail page, or any hint how to access them.
The instructions to install the DLL upgrade don't work in modern windows machines, because
the program files (x86) directory is protected. Even taking care to really do the upgrade,
it doesn't seem to work. sending with startls still fails for me.

It's not clear what you did, since "installing Hermes mail from the install package" would preclude you from having to manually change any DLL.
There are configuration changes you might need to do (potentially switching to using "required, alternate port", for example).
Nothing has happened on this project in ages, and you're unlikely to get help on this forum. We got the QCSSL.dll update, which has been working great. Nothing else at all has been changed from original Eudora 7.1 other than the SSL update.
A much better place to get help with your issue (and all aspects of Eudora usage) is the Eudora-Win support email list.
You can join it via emailing join-eudora-win@hades.listmoms.net, and putting Gazelle into the subject line.

It's sad that these eudora clones are going nowhere. I found another solution to the problem of Eudora's obsolete security - https://sourceforge.net/projects/emailrelay/ so I can run eudora unauthenticated, and let the relay keep up with the modern world.
