I downloaded and installed the Hermes QCSSL files for use with my Eudora 7.1.0.9. I installed them as instructed and the revised & new files now reside in C:\EUDORA which is where Eudora is installed (Windows 7 Pro 64-bit op sys).
My problem is that the revised DLL has not fixed the error "SSL Negotiation failed: the connection with the server is lost" when I set Eudora's "Secure Sockets when Receiving" setting to "REQUIRED, STARTTLS" instead of "Never". My email provider (LUXSCI.COM) will require use of TLS 1.1 or TLS 1.2 (TLS 1 no longer allowed) on Feb. 1 so I need to get this resolved soon."
Any ideas of what I am doing wrong with the new DLL or other things to try? Thanks, Bob Kepple

I installed Hermes and it fixed the errors about not being able to connect to Yahoo servers. However, it crashes Eudora every time. It looks like it's retrieving messages - the blue line going across the bottom like it does when messages are coming in - but it never completes and Eudora locks up. Then when I cancel it and go back, it will bring in messages from one (out of three) mailboxes, but if I try to access another mailbox, it freezes. When I did the install, at the beginning it said it was missing a C++ file, and asked if I wanted to proceed with the installation anyway, which I did, and it otherwise works, except for the crashing issue (above). Any ideas?

There are some useful posts about fiddling with either hermssl.zip and/or hermsetup.exe--hermssl fixed issue on my desktop system and I ended up using hermsetup to get things sorted on a laptop I use as a testbed and backup system when hermssl did not fix things.

Thanks. It turns out, it looks like the problem was caused by too many emails on the server that Eudora (which was updated with Hermes) was attempting to download, and thus locking up. I went to Yahoo web mail and archived all those old emails (around 20,000 of them going back to 2014), reinstalled Hermes (as new), and now it seems to work perfectly (fingers crossed).

Whoa!!! No wonder Eudora choked! '-}}
I use the webmail portals for my various email account to prescreen my mail deleting stuff I don't want and any spam that gets through to the webmail Inbox before retrieving it into my email software--I use both Eudora and Thunderbird. I should note that I prefer POP over IMAP which makes it (obviously) easier to control what's in the webmail portal Inbox...
Glad you got it sorted...'-}}

Did you try "Required, Alternate Port"? And did you do so for all relevant personalities?
Thanks -- "Required, Alternate Port" made all the personalities work for both POP3 and SMTP
I really appreciate the work you and your team are doing to update Eudora. Is there a way to make a donation (via PayPal) to the Hermes Mail project?
Absolutely, there is! You can send PayPal donations to: n.theodore.matavka.files@gmail.com
