Spurious Debug Information (?) in Received Messages

One niggling problem in Eudora for many years, which was known about IIRC, but was never fixed by Qualcomm before they abandoned it, was the seemingly random appearence in received messages of "LOGNULL NowTransReader::ReadIt() JJFileMT::Truncate(67509) ". It had been speculated that this is some sort of debug inforation which should be hidden but it somehow getting into the body of the message. Fortunately because of Eudora's amazing (and probably unique) facility to edit received messages, it's easy to remove in messages you want to keep, but I was wondering if there was any prospect of finally actually fixing the bug!
    Cheers,
    Dave.

Dave, This is indeed debugging information. It is generated in source module TransReader.cpp at line number 222. I cannot immediately make sense of what condition causes it nor see how the debugging text could get into a message. (And I have never seen it in a message myself.) Nevertheless, once we have the full ability to build Hermes, it should be easy to fix it.

Thanks Pete, that's good to know!
It's been happening in my messages for many years, and seems to appear completely randomly, sometimes in the middle of words!
Many messages have no occurrences at all, some have many.
    Cheers,
    Dave.

      Are you using any plugins?

    Yes, quite a few!
Do you think one of them could be the culprit, and do you have any "prime supects"?

Yes, I am fairly sure that it is one of those but I am unable to finger any particular ones.

OK, I will try disabling them all and see if the problem goes away.
If it does I will re-enable them one by one until I hopefully find the culprit!
    Cheers, Dave.

    Hi, Dave,

I strongly encourage you to sign up for the eudora-win email discussion list. It's full of a community of Eudora experts who regularly answer a wide range of Eudora questions.

The problem you're describing, if I recall, might be with the UTF8 to ISO plug-in. But you'll get a more certain answer from the eudora-win list.

    Joining the list: http://www.listmoms.net/eudora-win/index.html

Just wanted to report back that after much experimenting, it looks like it was in fact the "bugscreen" plugin that was causing the spurious debug information to appear in the body of some of my messages. I've had it disabled for a few days now, and have not seen it happen again.
    Cheers, Dave.

Good to have this confirmation. Thanks.

I too have the same issue of this line
    LOGNULL NowTransReader::ReadIt() JJFileMT::Truncate(8074599) LOGNULL NowTransReader::ReadIt() JJFileMT::Truncate(0)

appearing in some of the messages.

A very basic query, how do I disable the plug-ins - do I simply delete them from the Plug-in directory ?

The attached image has the plug-ins installed.

I just disabled the plugin by renaming its dll file in the plugins folder.
In this case it's bugscreen.dll, I renamed it to bugscreen.d~l.
I prefer to do that rather than just deleting it, as it's then easy to reactivate it if I want to.
    HTH. Cheeers, Dave.
