The Heap Checker is a tool for debugging memory management and string manipulation problems in C programs and is written to be highly portable. The Heap Checker has now been released under the GPL.

The Heap Checker was originally developed when the majority of commercial code was written in C and when development tools were a great deal simpler than they are today.
