I put Headcold binary 1.0a on my Treo 600 (Cingular),
and then discovered that people couldn't hear me on my
headset's microphone, so I deleted the Headcold binary
and db.

But, even after a hard reset, losing all the data, the
phone still acts like it did when Headcold was installed.

What is the proper way to remove Headcold from my phone
to return it to its previous functionality?

Please ignore this. It was a matter of coincidence that
around the time I installed Headcold BOTH of my headsets
stopped being recognized by phone. Only after flashing the
ROM and trying in desperation a THIRD headset, did I
discover that the problem lay not with the software, but
with the hardware.
