Years ago I picked up that code for setting speed on my NEC DVD drive on LKML... hdparm -E didn't work for this device.

Now I peeked into current hdparm and actually have seen a comment about this issue.

Well, I think it is about time that this issue is settled... thus I made this patch. It includes the code from Thomas Fritzsche off LKML and makes hdparm -E simply set both kinds of cdrom/dvd speed.
I didn't bother for any detection. Just doing it seems to work fine... but it may not be the final way to do it.

Anyhow, here is the patch and my hope that it or something similar may be included.

Too bad your copyright is inconsistent (more restrictive) than that of hdparm, as otherwise I could include your patch in the latest release.

If you can relicense it appropriately, then I can pick it up and stick it in there.

    Thanks

OK, I'm trying to contact the original author about the license.
I for sure have no trouble with making it BSD.
