I get the above error.
This is on ubuntu 8.10 2.6.27-9-generic
$ uname -a
Linux shirish-desktop 2.6.27-9-generic #1 SMP Thu Nov 20 21:57:00 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux
$ sudo /sbin/hdparm -c1 -d1 /dev/sda
setting 32-bit IO_support flag to 1
HDIO_SET_32BIT failed: Invalid argument
setting using_dma to 1 (on)
HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device
IO_support = 0 (default)
HDIO_GET_DMA failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device
Please lemme know if there is anyway to set the same.
