I almost gave up... but I had some ideas and tried again. I obtained different QT libraries (qt-3.2.3-8 and qt-devel-3.2.3-.02 I think it was) plus the latest lcms library and installed those rpms. Then I still had problems with the libmt-qt. So, I had to do this: # export QTDIR=$QTDIR:/usr/lib/qt3 After that, you also have to do this (as root): # cd /usr/lib/qt3/lib # ln -s libqt-mt.so.3.2.3 libqt-mt.so Then it will work. This should affect only those who are upgrading from an earlier version of qt (like 3.1, like I was). It might also solve other qt application compile problems. Hope this helped! And thanks to the author of this program for creating it. It got me WAAAAY too curious to give it up after all. Glad it's now working. I can run a program in interpretor and also compile it. -- .:: misfit-x ::. |

Hi! First, please, excuse my english Just when I've decided to develop programs using VB I discovered HBasic. I like very much the idea, and I tried to download it, but I encountered some problems. I've dowloaded the rpm file from SourceForge, but when I tried to install it I've seen an error message: "unpacking of archive failed on file /usr/local/hbasic/err_html/images/help_compiler.png; 400d2c7a: cpio:read failed-Bad file descriptor" Could anyone explain me where's the problem? Many thanks |

Hi, I am sure that this question has been posed many times before, unfortunately, the archive of all the previous messages no longer works on sourceforge. Q: How good is HBasic? I use VB6 to write apps. I'd love to be able to write apps for Linux using my existing skill-set. How hard will it be to migrate my skills to HBasic? Any help/suggestions/advice people can give? Also, I guess there is no way to port existing apps to Linux? D Diese Nachricht ist vertraulich. Sollten Sie nicht der vorgesehene Empfaenger sein, so bitten wir hoeflich um eine Mitteilung. Hi "." Hmmmm interesting mail you sent to the list. I'll answer this but I'm sure it will cause alot of angry faces what you sent. You just qualified yourself as unqualified because: 1. you have no subject line in your mail, that's the least you can do 2. You have no sender name (nobody likes to talk with a dot) 3. You asked for what is already available on the website http://hbasic.sf.net: Information - just read. People won't tell you anything else than what's at the website. Why should anybody repeat what's already written? Highly impolite ... what do you think? I'm pretty sure anybody else will ignore your post. Remember it for your next questions: 1st read then ask. This is no company where bored sales personnel writes a thousand times what's already written just to get over the work hours. Developers and support guys of open source software spend their (already short) sparetime here and so you need to spend at least a bit of your time and read to show your interest and appreciation. Nobody will feed the knowledge directly into your brain, it requires your own activity first hand. If you ask for a specific problem you have with HBasic in a week or so, I'm very very sure everybody yells "here" to help you out :o). There is a howto somewhere about the topic: How to ask questions .... was it on ESR's page? ... lol ... yeah, here it is: http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html --Kindest Regards/ Freundliche Gr=FC=DFe-- STIBS (aka Michael Stibane) "Man is free at the moment he wishes to be." --Voltaire ... seems this guy already knew about Linux :o) ... ________________________________________________________ Training, Administration, Consulting, Development http://www.stibs.cc, st...@st... -- Mandrakesoft Linux Campus Trainer http://mandrakesoft.com/training -- Escapade Server Sided Scripting Language Dev Team Pensacola, Dallas, Dresden, London http://escapade.org, st...@sq... -- Mepis Linux Team Member http://www.mepis.org ________________________________________________________ |

On the HBasic web page at hbasic.sourceforge.net, you should update this sentence that now reads: HBasic runs on Linux and uses the Trolltech Qt library (>= 3.0). to HBasic runs on Linux and uses the Trolltech Qt library (>= 3.3). In addition, your link to the Gambas web site doesn't work. In the HTML you have: <a href="gambas.sourceforge.net">Gambas</a> This should be: <a href="http://gambas.sourceforge.net">Gambas</a> Regards, Gary Frankenbery -- They say if you play a Microsoft CD backwards you hear satanic messages. I solved this one myself. Just get GTK+2.2.4 SOURCES (not the rpm or anything), and compile with these flags. Here's how I did it: 1. remove the old version of gtk (rpm -e --force --nodeps gtk+-2.2.1 for example or whatever will remove just that. Don't remove any other gtk+ packages!!) 2. mkdir /opt/lib/gtk+-2.2.4 3. Compile and install the new gtk+-2.2.4 sources using: # ./configure --eprefix=/opt/lib/gtk+-2.2.4 --prefix=/opt/lib/gtk+-2.2.4 # make # su (type in your root password) # make install 4. Next (still as root), edit /etc/ld.so.conf in a text editor and add the following line: /opt/lib/gtk+-2.2.4/lib 5. Still as root: # /sbin/ldconfig NOTE: If you compile other apps that use GTK+ you might get an error about PKG_CONFIG_PATH not pointing to gtk+-2.0.pc. Do the following to fix that: # locate gtk+-2.0.pc (take note of the path here) # export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=(path noted above w/o the *.pc filename included) I know Gimp wants freetype libraries newer than what RH9 has but I didn't install them because it messes with XWindows on my system - the font path in the config gets blitzed. :( Gimp 1.3.23 and Gimp 2.0pre1 both work ok anyway without further packages added other than compiling/installing GTK+2.2.4. If you do like above, it should work ok. Don't know about tablet though because I don't have an art tablet or anything, just mouse. .:: misfit-x ::. |

I've tried and tried. It's been I think... one day or two is it? I usually give up if I can't do anything more. I doubt I can spend much more time on this. It's a great idea. Just won't work on *my* computer - not the fault of the developer 'cause sometimes those things happen. I installed the new QT libraries and it said couldn't find the libqt-mt (-lqt-mt). I checked and I DID have them installed, and listed in /etc/ld.so.conf - I even did a ldconfig to be sure. Nothing works. :( If I use the RPMs after installing the new QT and libaraies, devel rpm, too, then if I try to compile a program the linker crashes saying it couldn't link and exited with !=0. I'm not really up to trying to get this to work any further. I have a dial-up connection and also pretty much just starting so I just don't want to mess with installing/uninstalling main libraries and stuff anymore, or taking several hours to download updates to new libraries. I'll try to learn C++ I guess. But I hope this doesn't discourage the developer from continuing. While I might not be able to get it working, I'm seeing others can and they'd probably be more help than I would with this project anyway. Thanks for the help anyway. Sorry it didn't work out for me, but I'll work with C++ now and see if I can learn that. -- .:: misfit-x ::. |

Hi, I think the problem should be your version of the Qt library. It looks = like you are using Qt 3.1.*. Starting with version Qt 3.2 the parameter for = the removeDatabase function has changed. The function using a QString = parameter has become obsolete. Since Qt 3.2 is available since several months now = I have decided to use the new version of the Qt library with version = 0.9.9h. This means Qt >=3D 3.2 has become a prerequisite. This might also be = the reason for your other problem. Please try to find a newer Qt version for your distribution and try = again. I tried the RPM package 0.9.9h2 and it again exited with this error: /usr/bin/hbasic: relocation error: /usr/bin/hbasic: undefined symbol: _ZN8QToolBoxC1EP7QWidgetPKcj I tried compiling the sources in 0.9.9h2 (it untarred fine), and got through the configure part ok, but the make exits with this: /usr/lib/qt-3.1/lib/libqt-mt.so: undefined reference to `std::basic_string<char, std::char_traits<char>, std::allocator<char> >::_Rep::_S_terminal' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make[1]: *** [autocheck] Error 1 make: *** [autocheck/autocheck] Error 2 It wouldn't matter which 'configure' file I used (either the one that is in the sources or the one in the .bz2), or whether or not I compiled with --with-kdesupport - I tried it either way with both configure files (doing a make clean in between to be sure I'm starting from scratch). Still can't get it running one way or another, unfortunately. :( .:: misfit-x ::. |

Second release of 0.9.9h. The sourcecode tarfile I have published yesterday was corrupted and the rpm package which I have compiled with the latest KDE beta makes problems starting on other people's computer. I have therefore created a new rpm package without KDE support. If you want the KDE support download the source package and configure with "./configure --with-kdesupport" |

Hi All, i found an interesting publication on Trolltech. http://www.trolltech.com/newsroom/announcements/00000028.html Matthias Ettrich, a senior software engineer at Trolltech and the founder of KDE, elaborates: "When ViaVoice is integrated with Qt, it will be possible to control Qt-based Linux desktop applications with speech input that is as simple as -- if not more simple than -- keyboard input. Developers can build speech-capability into the structure of their application from the beginning." Seems there might be a possibility to implement Voice-recognition and/or Text2Speech features to HBasic via QT. Is this possible or only my fantasy ? Whats the lists opinion on this ? regards juergen |

I assume you mean release 0.9.9h? I got the rpms (am downloading the sources from another mirror site right now). I installed the rpm of 0.9.9h though (after uninstalling the previous version) and I popped a term (as user, not root) and ran /usr/bin/hbasic. It didn't run at all. It said this: RPMhbasic: relocation error: hbasic: undefined symbol: _ZN11KMainWindow4showEv > If your distribution only supports the shared library lib*.so it may be > a problem to compile HBasic with MySQLCC support. I tried the new configure and it worked ok... But when I run make, I get this: make -C autocheck make[1]: Entering directory `/home/user01/work/HBasic/HBasic-0.9.9g_Source/autocheck' gcc -I/usr/lib/qt-3.1/include -I/usr/include/kde/ -g -O2 -lqt-mt -L/usr/lib/qt-3.1/lib -o autocheck autocheck.cpp /usr/lib/qt-3.1/lib/libqt-mt.so: undefined reference to `std::basic_string<char, std::char_traits<char>, std::allocator<char> >::_Rep::_S_terminal' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make[1]: *** [autocheck] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/user01/work/HBasic/HBasic-0.9.9g_Source/autocheck' make: *** [autocheck/autocheck] Error 2 Note that I'm trying the 0.9.9g from source in this. I haven't attempted to compile the 0.9.9h version because I can't seem to download a non-corrupted tarball. I tried aeleron (twice) and cesnet (once) after clearing the mozilla cache each time before downloading, and I still get errors when untarring I get that it reached an unexpected end of file. I tried a couple other mirrors (easynews and unc) and there was a 404 so I guess it didn't get to all the mirrors yet. I'm attaching my config.log if that will help. I'm not at all familiar with Linux/C++ programming or makefiles, etc. yet so I'm not able to diagnose this myself, unfortunately. Do I need other packages (and where to find them)? Am I going about something the wrong way? Do I have something that needs upgrading? I'm not sure on any of that. Hopefully something can be worked out. I'm one of those that just *has* to figure things out if it's broken :) Until I get too frustrated but I'm not about to give up just yet. :) |

I downloaded (twice now) the sources for 0.9.9h and both times the archive seems corrupted. I get this when I go to tar -xvzf: gzip: stdin: unexpected end of file tar: Unexpected EOF in archive tar: Unexpected EOF in archive tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now Running ./configure gives me this: configure: error: cannot find sources (src/mainwindow.cpp ) in . or .. And sure enough, There's no directory named "src". Is it me or is there something not quite right with the archive. I will try one more time to download it (I do clear my Mozilla cache before I download, just in case, both times now). But I'm wondering if it's that it got corrupted on the server. I've had this happen with stuff I've uploaded before to different servers so I know it can be possible, even if the archive itself was fine when it was created. Can someone let me know if they were able to d/l and untar it ok? Thx... -- .:: misfit-x ::. |

New component selection window This new widget has been inserted into the QT library with version 3.2 which means Qt 3.2 is required to compile or start HBasic 0.9.9h. Different updates in database explorer. Some of them (for example the table editor) are not yet stable but I wanted to publish a new version of HBasic after some weeks. - Database explorer can show sublists for different structures like databases on a server, tables of a database etc. in the subwindow on the right side. - Postgres databases will be displayed with schema information - Postgres database may display and start predefined views - Database design may be edited in database explorer - Display and edit global database definitions and project databases - Global definitions may be saved and reloaded default will be loaded on startup - Different predefined administration views have been added - New functions Rename table / Drop table Empty table - Table editor for simple column and index editing has been inserted again - Updates in table contents editor - Updates in sql command editor - result of execution (Error message) will be displayed in listview - Command reference for common MySQL and Postgres commands - fields in SQL commands will be replaced with user input when starting command execution. Try executing SQL commands like "select * from @table name@" - Integration of mysqlcc is now version 0.9.4 Basic may access sql command list see example program statement.bas |

Hi, there seems to be a problem with the rpm package of the last version = and I will try to fix that with the next release.=20 The reason for the dependancy of the libmysql library is the MySQLCC extension that I have added with the last version. I just copied the = checks for the configure script from the mysqlcc project. The lib*.a file = should be the static client library. If your distribution only supports the = shared library lib*.so it may be a problem to compile HBasic with MySQLCC = support. I will think about how to solve this problem but it should still be = possible to compile HBasic without mysqlcc support. I have appended a new = configure script which should not abort if the library libmysqlclient.a could not = be found on your computer. I hope this will help you to compile HBasic = from source. I've emailed the author before I figured out how to join this list (and I see he sees/posts here too). I'll outline my problem here though as well, but not in as full detail as I did in my email to the author as I probably overdid it on info that probably wasn't necessary. ? I've downloaded both the RPM and the source tarball for HBasic last night. Today I installed the rpm but found that while running it as a user, a dialog popped up and said it couldn't write an error message to a temporary file. I click OK and the IDE comes up. I click on the "Push Button" Icon in the left toolbar and Hbasic immediately exits without any further warning. This is repeatable. I tried compiling the source, wondering if it would be better and found it complained of no libmysqlclient.a. I have a few libmysqlclient.* files on my system but not ending with the ".a" extension. I decided to upgrade from MySQL 3.23 (which comes with the RH9 distro I use) to = MySQL 4.1. After such, I still get the same warnings. I have the server, client, devel, and compatible libraries installed. To be exact: php-mysql-4.2.2-17 mod_auth_mysql-1.11-12 MySQL-server-4.0.17-0 MySQL-shared-compat-4.0.17-0 perl-DBD-MySQL-2.1021-3 MySQL-client-4.0.17-0 MySQL-devel-4.0.17-0 So I had the idea to pop a root term and try running hbasic from the shell prompt (from the rpm installation, since I couldn't get past ./configure with the sources). When I did this, it complained of an undefined symbol called "_ZNK9QCheckBox9hitButtonERK6QPoint". After trying to put a pushbutton on the form again, it again exited suddenly and I found a "reallocation error" at the shell prompt citing the same undefined symbol. Does anyone know of a fix for this or how I can get the program to compile from source code? I'm a (former) Visual Basic 3/5/6 programmer and would like to convert some of my code to Linux until I can learn C++ and convert some of my stuff to that format. I like what I did get to see of HBasic from the site and screen shots. Would love to get this running on my system. I decided to upgrade from MySQL 3.23 (which comes with the RH9 distro I use) to MySQL 4.1. Thanks for any help anyone can give... .:: misfit-x ::. |

Ok, I figured out how to join the list now. Sorry about the other message. :) The link on the HBasic site just created an email to the list, but isn't to the subscribe page for the list. So that is how the previous message from me ended up here wondering how to join. I had assumed an autoresponder was going to mail me back subscription information (which never happened, as it wasn't set up that way). .:: misfit-x ::. |

Hello Danilo, your program is correct. The problem was that I haven't yet implemented = the comparison operators for strings. I have appended a new version of the = file runtime_lib/rt_operations.cpp which handles this functions in the interpreter. Replace the old file rt_operations with this new one, = start "make" and "make install" again and restart your program. I think this = new version should solve the problem. Otherwise this will be in the next = version of HBasic. Marcus -----Urspr=FCngliche Nachricht----- Von: Danilo Aguiar Prevides [mailto:da...@do...] Gesendet: Mittwoch, 7.
