Whoo-hoo! I just figured why I was having trouble updating the Tags.
After changing the Options in Settings, it was not changing the Tag contents in the drop downs.
I needed to make the changes, close the Settings, select a Batch, then select an egg, then it updated!
It had me going for a while, I was making changes and trying to browse the drop downs straight away.
If it is an easy change to update the drop downs as soon as you look at them, that would have saved me some frustration ... just a suggestion.
Pretty much everything else we want to do is here, We just have to figure out what is here and how best to use it to keep the information we want.
For example, because they are so critical to a Batch / Group, and we have only ever used cheap crappy incubators, we keep a record about three times a day of date, time, temperature setting, measured temperature and humidity. We can save this in the Group comments.

Are you using HatchKeeper or HatchKeeper-Mobile? In theory the tag dropdowns should be cleared to when the dialog is open/closed, or batch is unselcted/selected. Once any egg is selected, there will always be one selected until you close/reopen the dialog or unselect/select a batch.
As far as keeping track of humidity and temps. Check out the the batch>egg>day comments. You can add comments for every batch, every egg in that batch, and every day for every egg. Just select an egg and the day you want to log/read and use the day comments text input to add your comment. The dates are pre-stamped on each day comment.

Whilst I hope it is of use to you, I do not think my comments necessarily would be of any benefit left on a public discussion forum as they may be misinterpreted as negative. I like what I see and would like to use it and would like you to be encouraged to keep improving it.
I am using HatchKeeper 0.80.0 on Windows 7. Yeah, a bit dated.
I found the Tag drop downs were not updated until I selected an egg. I was trying to update the Options in Settings then check them before selecting an egg.
I am trying HatchKeeper out to keep record of the hatch we are loading into the incubator right now. The notes will be a bit random as they are being made on the fly. We are still amateurs at hatching so we make notes on all sorts of things we think might be of use if anything goes wrong.
We keep varying amounts of detail on the eggs we set. I found that Day 1 is tomorrow's date rather than today's. We collect the following sort of information:
Date Laid, Weight, Air Sack Size (i.e. estimated diameter) in mm, Shell details, Colour.
At the moment I have set the Tags as follows:
Tag1: Air Sack Size mm,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22,23,24,25,26,27,28,29,30
Tag2: Shell,Good,Speckling,Cracking,Impact
Tag3: Colour,White,Tint,Light Brown,Dark Brown,Chocolate,Light Blue,Blue,Green Tint,Olive
Really low importance: When I "Edit Tag" I have to click on OK twice to save it.
Day 1 is tomorrow's date, Perhaps there should be a Day 0 for details as the eggs are set?
Also the date added to the comments and is reports is in US format rather than the date format selected in Windows. I see that I can go and edit the date and format in comments, but in reports they are all US format.

Thanks again for all the feedback. I do not see these comments as negative. I'm glad somebody is using/testing it and reporting bugs. Although there are thousands of HatchKeeper users, few mentioned using the Advanced egg features. I still use Windows 7 for building HatchKeeper, so it should run just fine on that. I do almost all my development on Linux.
Dates/reports are hardcoded into the app as of right now. However as you can see from the most recent commits in the git repo, the next release is focusing on multilingual support. Currently only English and Dutch(Thanks to marc036) are available. Naturally it'll take some time but I hope to make it much easier for people in different countries to use it. On that note, if you or anybody you know would be interested in translating and maintaining a translation of HatchKeeper into another language, please let me know. Also thanks for bringing the US formated date stamps to my attention.
As far as the egg dates starting on day #1 vs day #0, please remember, if you start incubating eggs on a day at noon: day 1 isn't "done" till the next day at noon. So in that sense the date stamped is when the day is completed. I hope that makes sense. Day 1 is a period of 24hr and might include part of the next day.
I'll check into the problem with clicking twice to save tags. Not sure what's going on. A note on the egg tags, they are on the egg level as opposed to day level so when you change the tag it'll update the egg and leave no reference of previous tags.
Hopefully you have a good hatch!

It would be great to have a way to sycronize your database across multiple devices. We're looking to implement something that can be used by multiple users simultaneously.

That would certainly be nice. Currently HatchKeeper is completely offline. So adding that would require a server somewhere. This would add another layer of cost, security vulnerability, and mantainance to an app that has never generated a single penny . That said, I have had a working proof of concept PHP port of HatchKeeper running on a server already. Very basic, but it worked. Maybe in the future if I find time, I'll revisit HatchKeeper-Server again.

if you wanted syncing database you can use a simple at home nas or smdb share and the app and pc could just sync to the database in the share. would that be too hard to implement?

I am unsure what all would be involved. Syncing data can become fairly complicated if several users are editing at the same time. Who's changes get overwritten and who's changes stay. However, if you are interested in implementing this, the source is available in a git repo, I'd be happy to help where I can.
