I just want to inform you that the new Hardened Linux version 1.6.2-snapshot is out. We tried to release the new version earlier but since PaX and our gcc didn't work correctly, we decided to fix this first.

What has changed since 1.6.1-snapshot?

Since 1.6.2 there are 3 different categories for packages: slackware (installed by default), extra (you need to install them by hand) and universe (additional packages not really needed by a security system). We wanted to release 1.6.2-snapshot this weekend but we found some errors in some of the packages we first want to fix. Currently also changes in the package directory structure were made. We now have 3 categories of packages: The first two are like before: "slackware" (default installed packages) and "extra" (you need to install them by hand). Security updates are always provided for packages in slackware/ and extra/. These packages also are hardened.... read more

Today we released the new snapshot version 1.6.1-snapshot of Hardened Linux.

This release is the first release containing a 2.6.x kernel (2.6.18.5-grsec is included). Also some new packages are available (like snort) and in extra/: clamav, quagga (routing software) and havp (anti-virus proxy). Also some package updates are included (like the new aide-version 0.13 and a security fixed gnupg version). Another feature is that now more of our included librarys are compiled with ssp too.

Since today Hardened Linux includes linux kernel-2.6.18.5 including the grsecurity patch instead of kernel 2.4.33.3-grsec. This kernel is configured to support more hardware and up to 64 processors.

Yesterday don cipo <doncipo (at) redhat.polarhome.com> from romania joined our development team. He is the maintainer of the snort package and will work on different library packages.

The new development snapshot of hardened linux (version 1.6.0) is out. It contains some new packages like rkhunter, arpwatch and kerberos. hlhs includes many new features and some other packages are updated.

This release does not contain slackpkg since we have no package server online and it still does not contain a 2.6.x kernel. It is just released to show you how HL looks like and to test the current package versions.

We just want to inform you, that you can download the 1.5.0-snapshot version released on 06-Nov-2006 from the sourceforge.net mirrors now too. This release does not contain the current development files and is already obsolet, but you can get a few impression of the project by using it.
