Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_de.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

Hello, HandyTags developers, I'd like to welcome Christoph Wilhelms as a developer to the team of HandyTags developers. Christoph, I have added you to the project. I think, you'll bring in the expertise in Javascript that will make our calendar truly interactive. Also, I have examined the mailing lists that are associated with this project. I have found out that they are still no subscribers. I suggest that we all subscribe to them, using the following links: http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/handytags-devel http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/handytags-users http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/handytags-announce This will establish the "devel" list as an easy medium for communication. And now for something different: I'd like to find an agreement about the current status of the project, about our goals and about the way to run the project. Please give me your feedback on that. Goals: ------ The initial goal when we left Jakarta temporarily was to produce a unified calendar tag that we can pass back to them. I have created the SourceForge project to accommodate *any* kind of useful JSP taglib. To have a starting point, I have created the file package "htgui" (HandyTags GUI) that will produce a taglib (htgui.war) with the calendar control in it. So, the project architecture supports the original goal but can well be extended for future needs. Status: ------- I have imported my calendar tag source code into the CVS repository and included the necessary build scripts. I have released a beta called "0.6". Now, Boyd wants to include his source code, Christoph should do so as well. I volunteer to coordinate and test. Project organization: --------------------- SF allows to set a role for each member of the project team. I have assigned the following roles: Boyd: developer Chris: developer Matthias: project manager This does not mean that I am the "guru" of everything :-) but simply that I offer to take care of the organizational stuff. This includes communication and distribution of tasks among the team members. If any one of you should *not* feel comfortable with this, please protest! Tasks: ------ I think, the first thing for us to do is to establish a small development plan that shows which features from the three sources shall be included in the product and where. I'll start with that today and discuss it with you on the "handytags-devel" list. Regards...
