Hi,

I am very new to HammerOra. But from reading the documentation and client reviews it looks like it will solve my purpose.

We need to simulate the production load test in test environment.

Can you please point me to the correct documentation.
This is for the activity of upgrading the production databases from 10g to 11g.
We cant take chances on prodcution and want to be sure that after upgrade the db will perform same as 10g.

We will be having a sandpit to test so please guide how to simulate the situation and gather production data to run on sandpit.

Regards,
S.

    Hi,

    All current documentation is here:http://hammerora.sourceforge.net/document.htm
You need to generate Oracle trace files and convert them with Hammerora to play them back to simulate your productino workload.

    Cheers,

    Steve

    HI Steve,

I am following the link for trace replay.

    http://hammerora.sourceforge.net/traceandreplay.htm
Here is do follwo the steps and create the trace files -> load it-> convert it using oratcl-> create virtual user ->load it -> after this it says "Finally click the Run Hammerora Loadtest button" which i am not able to get in the software.

Please assist where to get this button. Am i doing something wrong?

    Regards,
    Shaily.

Ok Steve I managed to get the button and run the trace file of prodcution on my sandpit.
But any documentation around how to compare both the loads?

A bit confused as to how to get comparitive analysis and detailed data to go forward and be sure that new db will perform similar to the current prod database.

    Regards,
    S.

    Hi,

Delayed reply due to travel. I recommend using the Oracle standard tools to do the comparison of the workload, for example generating an AWR report is a great start to do the comparison. If you look at the TPCC based workload this can give you a good example of how this can be done. If you are looking to time indivdual queries then let me know, there is a undocumented feature to capture response times that I can update here if they are needed.

    Cheers,

    Steve

    Hi,
Yes is exactly the sort of scenario that many people have used hammerora for before in testing upgrade scenarios. The core documentation is here http://hammerora.sourceforge.net/document.htm
and if you are new to the tool it is very much worth reading the quick start guide and doing some of the built in tests first to understand how it works and to make sure your database and server are correctly configured in the first place. After this you will need to use the Oracle trace file replay feature where there is some documentation herehttp://hammerora.sourceforge.net/traceandreplay.htm. Essentially you trace your database activity - convert these traces into a test script and then replay them against your test database in any configuration you choose.
